The new thread. In case anyone had not yet heard there is a lottery and there will be fireworks.
And, now we can leave the Previews thread behind. . .

Normally I look forward to reading all the reviews, but Teachout has a point

Every time I hear that there will be fireworks, I imagine Lin being asked, like the Prince in the final of The King and I, "Why fireworks?"
The Prince's response (as I'd like to imagine Lin-Manuel Miranda's) was, "I like fireworks!"
Is the show paying for the fireworks? Or is the city? Or is BWW?

I would assume the show. They are making a ton of money.
The invitation on the splash page of the show's website makes it sound like show is, but the fieworks are over the Hudson and "people can also listen to a 12-minute musical compilation of Americana that accompanies the display via simulcast by logging on to www.hamiltonbroadway.com/fireworks."
I'm curious about the Americana.
According to Lin on Twitter, it includes "America (F*** Yeah)" from Team America: World Police.
Do you think the NYT might send Isherwood in on this one since Brantley reviewed it at the Public?
Ben was there Monday night.
A transfer review of a show always goes by default to the original reviewer and of course it is Ben's prerogative. And there is zero chance he is going to pass the Broadway review of the most important musical of his tenure to Ish.

Makes sense. I just wondered if, from a journalistic standpoint, the parties involved might want a more fresh perspective since Ben had already reviewed the show.
The AM New York critic who gave it 2.5 stars at the Public gives it 4 stars on Broadway.
^Shortest, most non-detailed review ever?
I find the fireworks gauche. Like, "We're almost literally going to throw away a couple of hundred grand now into the air now. Thanks for buying all those Premium seats, folks!"
"I love Hamilton. I love it like I love New York..."
"^Shortest, most non-detailed review ever?"
It could be even briefer, honestly: "I am making myself love it so I don't look like the spoilsport."

The fireworks may be a nod to In The Heights as well. "Look at the Fireworks". I think the reviews will be nothing but outstanding for this.

Could they turn on a.few hydrants too
I consider myself team-Hamilton, but I do think the fireworks are kinda over the top. You know if Harvey did this for Finding Neverland's opening people would have nothing but bad things to say.

If this happened for finding Neverland , some here would still be going on about it, I mean they still are going on about Harvey!

We were talking about a lot of the little details of this opening night at work the other day (glossy passes for the party, nice wristbands, and continually running shuttles) and we were trying to guesstimate the cost of all this. Of course, later that day they announced the fireworks, and we just gave up.
Brantley's review is in
"I am loath to tell people to mortgage their houses and lease their children to acquire tickets to a hit Broadway show. But 'Hamilton,' [...] might just about be worth it."
WOWZA.
