My daughter's husband deployed to Iraq six weeks after they got married on April 2. She is down but keeping busy with work and has been reading the book Hamilton and following the broadway. I would love to surprise her with a trip but the tix are crazy expensive. If anyone knows of someone who can't use theirs let me know. I am happy to pay but cannot afford the current rates.

Regardless of your family members' military status, I don't think anyone who has tickets they can't use will be selling them at or below face value when there is so much opportunity to turn a huge profit, even if they bought them with the intention of being able to attend the show and not solely for the purpose of scalping. Unfortunately the vast majority of the block of tickets from the official vendor that went on sale last night are already sold out, so your best bet is to keep your eye on when the next block goes on sale and buy the cheapest ticket available the moment they do.

Thank you. I subscribed for the ticket announcement but I work and didn't see the email till this evening. But not sure it would of helped because the tix in the block released were for 2017 and her husband will be home at the end of the year. I was looking for a surprise for while he was deployed. I would happily pay more than face value but I can not afford market value of 600 and up. I am going to have to just pray and let it go bc I agree with you that most people can make too much money on the tickets right now.

I would suggest you keep checking this board and ticket master. They're actively cancelling orders for people who exceeded the ticket limit (which is pretty easy to do accidentally because it's not always apparent and it's a pretty long time span to which the limit applies). So those tickets pop up on ticketmaster again from time to time. I found out about the last batch here.
Also I doubt it will be much use for Hamilton but has she registered for VetTix? I have Cubs season tickets and have donated to them--seems like a great organization at least from my end. My understanding is you have to get verified as a vet or immediate family member of active military/vet, but once verified you can get free or deeply discounted tickets that are donated. I imagine the chances are slim but you never know if someone will donate Hamilton tickets--and if not, she might be able to get free tickets to something else that would still bring a smile to her face.

If Hamilton is completely sold out except for scalper tickets, even with those discount programs for vets, OP doesn't really have any options here. The military programs can only offer discount tickets to performances for which tickets are available.
I would suggest you check out Broadway.com. They had tickets under 500 bucks when I checked earlier today. Good luck!

Broadway.com is a reseller site, though. Is it reliable? There have been problems with people selling fake tickets.
legit. Not cheap but totally legit and the best option right now.

+1. As of 8:00 AM, they still have RM tickets for $250.00 and FM for $347.00 for select dates.
Totally reliable. Funny that they've become a cheaper option. (Not cheaper then directly purchasing, but still.)

If you and your daughter have the time, why not try the cancellation line? Sure it might be a 1-2 day wait but it all depends on how much you want it and how much you are willing to pay for tickets.

I was just going to post the same thing. I realize it's over the original poster's budget, but the fact that 3/4 of the ticket price is tax deductible may make it more feasible.

I don't know the actual number but you should remember that the credit (for the tax deductibility) would mean very little if the OP doesn't hit a certain household income threshold in 2016. Consult with your accountant first.

Go to Broadway.com -- they have $300 tix
Another vote for broadway.com. I got great orchestra seats yesterday for $340 a piece. The tickets must be picked up at the Richard Rodgers box office the day of the show. I just checked and there are still a few good seats for the matinees on December 30 and 31st.
The Broadway.com tickets are moving fast, even just today. I bought a pair for myself even! I recommend jumping on these if you can afford the markup.

She has only been married 2 months so new to military benefits and was unaware of Vet Tix. We will check that out--thank you!
