I got into Hamilton after seeing it on Disney and have been listening nonstop since. I was planning to go to NYC (family is there) sometime in the coming months to see it live. Then I just found out the north american tour is coming to Buffalo where I currently live.

Are the qualities of the tour and the show in NYC equal? The tour tickets are much cheaper (~$120 USD). But if the quality is not the same as seeing it in NYC I might as well save up and spend the money once.

Honestly since the original cast left, I’d say seeing Hamilton anywhere is seeing Hamilton. I’m not a huge fan of the show but I have friends who are obsessed and at times they’ve said the touring cast was better than the Broadway cast. I wouldn’t waste your money on a Broadway ticket for a negligible difference. See it in Buffalo. You’ll actually get cheaper tickets that full price if you wait. Often the scalpers can’t get rid of their tickets and drop the prices. Hamilton didn’t sell out the last run in Buffalo so you can get tickets pretty easily I imagine.

Also, the tour set is identical to the Broadway set. The touring set has its own stage floor so it can incorporate the turntable that is pivotal in the show’s staging. As mentioned above, in many instances the tour cast is better than on Broadway. Producers are aware that the touring productions get the most visibility so they keep the tour talent top notch. Many tour cast members generally transfer to the Broadway production later on.

Hamilton has the good fortune of being in a 1300 seat theater on Broadway. That is much smaller than most touring houses. Also, although the set would be identical to Broadway, somewhere I herd that they have outfitted the Richard Rogers Theater with almost 200 speakers…the Touring companies may not have that luxury.

I have only seen the Broadway production of Hamilton so I can only comment on that.. But my friend saw the tour in Philly and the Broadway show. She said that the tour cast was 10x better than Broadway cast.
