About 13 years ago we were holding auditions for a new musical in which I was writing the book. It had to do with bag ladies and Central Park and had it actually been produced it may have been the worst musical ever. Regardless, a young lady came in and blew us all away with her poise, charm and incredible voice. The composer/lyricist chose someone else, who also had a great voice, but I never forgot the name of the one who came in second. I knew she would be a major star. 13 years later, she certainly is. Happy Birthday, Stephanie Block!

lol....who knows what would have happened to her if she had been cast in "Sister, Can You Spare A Dime"? (That was the title of it). The poor girl might have been scared out of the business forever!!

Sad to say, I don't know. I don't think she's in the business anymore, or at least, not in New York. She was a very talented performer, though.

Happy birthday! Such a wonderful actress with a lovely voice--and when I met her at the stagedoor of the Wicked tour in October 2005, she was really sweet. I got a picture with her on my digital camera which, unfortunately, was stolen during that performance. 
I miss that picture. haha
Oh--and I e-mailed Stephanie telling her what happened with my camera, and she went out of her way and offered to send autographed pictures to make up for the loss. I screamed when I opened the manilla envelope to find the autographed pictures. :)

I love the stories you all are telling--I've told mine before, so I won't revisit it here except to say that our high school's Musical Theatre Club is in its third year now thanks to the birthday girl.
