Very excited for this. According to Rowling, it is NOT a prequel. That is all she is saying at the time being. I will be very interested to hear cast details closer to the time.

Didn't I see that it's about his parents?

Very conflicted on how to feel about this. I love Harry Potter and I love plays, obviously, but can the two successfully mix? I am definitely encouraged by the involvement of John Tiffany, I think he is a terrific director who could handle the material well. I would love if this turns out to be an amazing piece of theatre. I think it has potential. I think it is smart to have the main characters of the play be characters that we didn't see so much in the movies/books. Can you imagine a play where Harry was the central character and someone other than Radcliffe played the role? It would be weird. I also think it has potential to be a good story, the night they died could be the climax of the show, and I'm sure Jo has come up with a good plot leading up to it.
I also don't understand how they can say it is not a prequel when it clearly says it is about his parents leading up to the night they died.

Well, that's how Darren Criss got on many people's radar - playing Harry Potter. Sure, it wasn't a serious production but I honestly didn't mind him as Harry. I didn't compared to Daniel because it was such a different take.
When he went into H2$, then I compared him. LOL.

But I think the difference is that his show is meant to be silly and fun, whereas I feel like if I went to see a "serious" play about Harry I would have a harder time accepting other actors playing characters like the trio, Dumbledore, etc. maybe that is just me though. If done well, it could work, I'm sure. But I still think it is smart of them to focus on minor characters who are still important characters that we have an interest in hearing more about.

If Dumbledore is in the play, I hope he is actually true to the book. I still get frustrated thinking about his characterisation in the films. I definitely agree with focusing on the minor or silenced characters. There is so much material in the Harry Potter universe, if it is handled right I think it could be fantastic.
