If Jonathan Groff played Harry Potter, I'd actually like Harry.

Patti as Umbridge would be GENIUS! Ha! Not a fan of the idea, getting a bit bored of big titles to draw crowds in with awful music, which has happened to most film to broadway shows. Can see it deffinatly happening with maybe JK writing a condensed version or maybe just one long story that is completely different. I just want to see some more original shows on Broadway that have great music and are traditionall broadway and not hollywood!

This would be so strange, but hey you never know. Cast wise, I agree with the large majority for Michael Ceveris... but Jonathon Groff? How old of a Harry Potter do you plan on making him? The first book he is eleven years old. Those people previously mentioned are way too old. I realize, yes, most of the time that actors play younger teenagers (Hairspray) when they are older, but you are pushing it with age.
I like the poster though, even if it is missing Sirius

Oh lord, save us! A 'Harry Potter' musical would be fearsome enough, but please NOT a 'Harry Potter' jukebox musical!
(Although if we were going to transplant songs from other shows, I demand a tiny bit of rewriting for the inclusion of 'Lily's Eyes' from 'The Secret Garden'. ;D)

This will never work, there is no way all the books can be condensed enough for a musical. I love the Harry Potter series, and way too much would have to be cut out, the story wouldn't make sense. Unless, someone writes a prequal to Harry Potter about Lord Voldermort- ala Wicked to Wizard of Oz, this has no chance to make it.

NO. No "prequels," no "what if" stories. Fanfiction does not belong on stage.

Oi... I went to Idyllwild Arts Summer Academy when I was 12 and 13 (John Altieri of the Jersey Boys tour was my director) and we did I Could Just Kill Her (an original 70's disco/Greek God musical) and The Prizewinner of Defiance Ohio (based on the book). Every year they write an original one. Anyway, they had a demo CD of the one they did the year before... Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. And if they are doing something off a book, they always get the author/publisher's permission (who usually say yes since it's one performance attended by about only 120 ppl). The music was so god awful...
"In my cupboard under the stairs I live...
Without a friend!
Praying someday I will fly
Far away, far away from here."
"There are some situations that result in friendship
Like beating up a 12 foot mountain troll?
Yeah!
So let's hold hands... Hermione! You've got a firm grip."
Really really bad... and it was an outdoor venue... no lighting, just in the middle of the morning... not good. And the quidditch... oh the quidditch.

Rose_MacShane, unless JKR gives her blessing, which I doubt she ever will. (However she did let them make that theme part, and although I'm a huge fan of the books, I have no desire to ever set foot in that park).
overthemoonboy, that musical sounds absolutely hilarious.

"[Gore] was widely perceived as arrogant. If you know something, you're not smart. You're a smarty-pants. It's annoying. People get annoyed with your knowledge. It goes back to high school, to not doing your homework ... 'There's something I should know, I don't know why I should know it but someone knows it and I don't. So I'm going to have to make fun of him now.'"

Okay, did anyone think that Harry Potter could kind of be like The Coast of Utopia? Not that I'm for it at all, but I mean, Utopia was a 9 hour play, and it got through. I'm sure they'd do something about it.

To the person who mentioned Warner Bros. Theater Ventures' plans with "Harry Potter" (I knew about these since "Lestat" time) what's happening with the "Batman" musical? And are they still pursuing "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"?

Ooh, I love that idea. They could do it in three parts...
Part One: The Preliminaries (books one through three)
Part Two: The Coming (books four and five)
Part Three: The Open War (books six and seven)
They could have children play the kids during the first part, and then have the adult actors take over for the second and third. I've always seen GoF as the real "turning point" in the series, anyway - the part when you say "these aren't litle kids anymore."

Great poster, but you're missing many of the main characters like Neville and Dumbledore. I'm sorry... but since when is Bellatrix or Malfoy more important than Dumbledore?
Seriously though, a LOT of showtunes apply to Harry Potter. I can easily see a bunch of pairs singing "All the Wasted Time" (esp. Lupin and Tonks) "Lily's Eyes" for James and Snape, Lupin singing "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" Harry's parents singing "Those You've Known." God... it's probably possible to stage the entire seventh book transplanting songs from other musicals.

Cosette: Roses are red.
Marius: Violets are blue.
Eponine: You're so in love!
Marius: And so not with you.

Eite you want an Ashman score or a Kander score, depending on whether you want it lighter or darker.
You could do a great song talking (singing?) around the subject of "He Who Must Not Be Named." That could be a fun song.

I put the characters I had casting ideas for on the poster. I didn't see the need to put a question mark over Dumbledore's name just because I don't know who would play them. I didn't intend it as a promo for the actual project, it was just for my own amusement. I'm sorry if you found that unsatisfactory - perhaps you'd like to come up with your own (mostly original) casting ideas and make your own poster? =)

I hope you're not implying we should aim for different casting; how can you better Cerveris as You-Know-Who and Sarich as Snape?
Hell, why doesn't Sarich just play all the roles? ^_^

I LOVE that poster, even though I think a Potter musical is kind of a terrible idea. But KATE SHINDLE as Bellatrix? Now that is some seriously inspired casting. I'm in love with that idea.
And Felciano as the love of my li... I mean Remus... yes, yes, also a brilliant idea. As is Kate Wetherhead as Ginny.
How about Kerry Butler as Tonks?

I believe Harry Potter should be performed in repertory as a 7 day musical theatre experience. Audience members would purchase tickets for the entire week of shows and each night a different show would be presented at one of two theatres. Each show would feature the same cast and creative team.
BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"

I like the younger cast/older cast idea, than maybe Jonathan could still play Harry. And I was thinking it could be done like Coast of Utopia as well. If it was in the right hands, it couldn't be so terrible afterall. I'd like to see someone like Guettel do it.
