re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

It's going to happen eventually. We can't stop it.It could work. But since it's a seven book series and they obviously can't do all 7 books in 1 musical, which book should they use?

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

NoWay!! There is no Lord of the Rings musical. That would be like stupppid.

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

I'm not really allowed to talk about it but let me just say it's REALLY good - I was doubtful at first, but they kind of go the "Xanadu" route with it - it's actually a great commentary on our culture - they don't take it too seriously. And it's not a "Children's" musical (not saying it's not appropriate, but let's just say I play one of the main "kids" and I'm in my 20's) - no children in the cast.

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

I'm SO glad someone mentioned the Lily's Eyes thing! I was going crazy every time I saw that.

"He has her eyes... he has Lily's hazel green eyes..."

(Too bad the composers couldn't work a rewritten version of said song into this proposed musical!)

I LOVE Cerveris as Voldemort. I think Drew Sarich is a tad young for Snape (he's mid to late 30's in the books, though - how old is Drew?) but acting-wise he would be brilliant. And if we're casting around that general age, Manoel Felciano springs to mind as someone who could probably pull off Lupin...

Regarding the whole "kids onstage" thing, remember that they obviously didn't stay the same age the entire series, and if they were going to do any version of the saga where they age, they don't necessarily have to cast young - or they could even have a younger and older trio. (In that case, I vote Megan McGinnis for older Hermione!)

Hmmm... Tyler Maynard as Draco Malfoy?

I think a show about the Marauders, Lily and Snape when they were at Hogwarts would be pretty neat.

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

I've thought about this for a while, it would never work WAY too much material! But I've already had certain people cast in my mind if it ever did: Drew Sarich (Sirius Black), Jim Stanek (Remus Lupin), Bob Cuccioli (Voldemort or Snape or Lucius), Ann Mandrella (Bellatrix), Roderick Hill (Lockhart). I've always liked the trio better when they're older so thoughts for the trio would be Allison Fischer (Hermonine), John Gallagher (Ron) and Jonathan Groff (Harry). Don't know why, but that cast would really work for me!

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

This is a terrible idea that is only a matter of time.

And Elphie3 for "not being allowed to talk about it" you sure said a lot. And I just can't imagine comparing it to Xanadu, I mean how is that even possible and still maintain some integrity? Can you give any more details? Who wrote it? What is the score like? Is there a role for Nathan or Harvey?
PEACE.

>> I am not naming any names, but really guys, some of you are big idiots, mentioning Book 7 spoilers, without warning those of us who haven't read it yet and DON'T want to be spoiled !!!

Uhm... that's presuming the spoiler is real to begin with, eh? re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

No I can't say any more about it. And I didn't say that much. I'm allowed to discribe it - but no details, i.e - composer, director, even who I'm playing (spicifically - I know I said I'm playing one of the kids.)

It's still in development so it will probably be a while before it comes to fruition.

I'll let you know more when I can.

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

But if it already being workshopped the composer must have secured the rights. It can't be that big of a secret. Unless it is being done on the DL in a basement in Yonkers.
Come on, give us a hint. Does the composer have any Broadway credits? Does JK know about it? Does WB?
PEACE.

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

I've thought of the "Lily's Eyes" thing ever since I heard the song. I immediately thought of Harry Potter, I must confess. re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

They'd have to do, like, 7 musicals... or one giant Wagner-esque musical.

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

Anything is possible in the world of musicals. If you read Wicked (the book), who would of thought that would work on stage? Maybe they could cast some of the leads reality style a la You're The One That I want???

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

I thought a musical about the Founders of Hogwarts would make an interesting musical. Act 1 could be about their idealism and what each member intended to do for their kind by building their school (and how they met and getting to know their personalities). Act II could be them having to face the very real issue of non-magical people and what to do with them and Salazar Slytherin's falling out with the rest of the founders and each founder choosing their own path for their houses.
"[Gore] was widely perceived as arrogant. If you know something, you're not smart. You're a smarty-pants. It's annoying. People get annoyed with your knowledge. It goes back to high school, to not doing your homework ... 'There's something I should know, I don't know why I should know it but someone knows it and I don't. So I'm going to have to make fun of him now.'" -Sarah Vowell, The Partly-Cloudy Patriot

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

Here are some lucky kids that are producing an off-broadway show of Harry Potter.

This of course has nothing to do with the legit version that we will see in the next few years. Warner Brother's Theatrical division that produced "Lestat" will produce it.

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

No way in hell would this ever happen. It's like making the Lord of the Rings into a musical - it doesn't work.

And I don't think JK Rowling would give the rights to someone to make a musical out of it. It'd be absurd.

Becky Gulsvig's hair isn't bushy enough. As a girl with ridiculously thick hair, I take offense to all of these thin-haired Hermiones we see (and by all of them, I mean Emma Watson.)

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

Big fat NO. How are they going to condense 7 books into 2 1/2 hours? Because I fully expect they won't do 7 seperate musicals. This has BAD IDEA written all over it.

re: Harry Potter: the Musical!

Honestly I can't talk about it. It's not because of rights - it's because they don't want any info released until they're ready.

So sorry - unfortunately that's all you'll get from me
