It looks interesting. And Tyne Daly is a remarkable performance, so I'm sure it's great.

I saw the revival last week. She definitely is as great as you'd expect. Her stage presence and how she commands the stage is mind-blowing. Just as she was back in 1989 with the Broadway revival of GYPSY.

Though many seem to not have enjoyed the other actors in this revival of MASTER CLASS, I did. I'm one to overlook certain limitations and accept the actual performance, so that's that (on that).

By the way... I also saw the original production with the all-too-perfect Zoe Caldwell and her replacements: Patti LuPone and Dixie Carter. I also saw the 1st Nat'l Tour's Faye Dunaway. All of them: sensational. The Maria Callas scenes in the book validate how great her dialogue was written.

I saw it last night and she was fantastic. The accent wavered, but the humor, the ego, the monologues...she nailed everything. It was a joy to watch.

Tyne's accent does waiver, but she does command the stage so well. I'll never forget seeing Patti perfom the role with a terrible cold. She sneezed, sniffled, wiper her nose and coughed the whole show, but somehow she still commanded that stage with intensity and fire!

^ I agree - she was mesmerizing and totally mind-blowing. Don't miss her perfomrance.

Tyne Daly is a fine actress and she gives an accomplished performance. I don't think she is ideally cast here, however, and does not project the haughty, imperious quality of the diva.

The play seems less effective this time around.

To those saying that Tyne's accent goes in and out:

I was at a talkback a few weekends ago, and the director said it is a character choice. Why? Because Callas herself was very conscious of how she sounded when she spoke, so she always had a very distinct accent. But every so often her polished accent would disappear for a moment, and a hint of New Yawk would come to a head. She did of course grow up in New York, and THEN moved to Athens in her early teens.

Tyne is obviously miscast--physically and temperamentally--but as a true professional, she manages to spin a truly enjoyable performance overall. It's not her fault that no one has written a play about Eileen Farrell.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Re: the accent.

To quote Emily Litella...well, that's different. Never mind.

Had no clue about her upbringing.
