I was considering waiving the stagedoor process when I see it on Saturday night in favor of mailing in a Playbill to get autographs...Do they respond? How long for a response?

Address it to the particular actor. Yes, you will get it back. Depending on when they get around to sending it back to you, it could be from a few days to a few weeks.

Don't forget to include a pre-paid, self-addressed shipping envelope (large enough to contain the Playbill). If not -- you ain't getting sh*t back, etc. Has anyone tried to mail SOUTH PACIFIC?

But what if I address it to the whole cast? Could I expect to get it back at all being as it is near closing...

Addressing it to the entire cast is the worst thing you can do. If you're seeking to get the Playbill autographed by the entire cast then address your main envelope to STAGE DOOR. Include a note stating you want the Playbill signed by the cast. The person handling the correspondence for the show will see your note and have the cast sign it. My friends have done this in the past with great results. The Playbill will be a bit dog-earred as it will be passed around, etc. But at least you'll have it autographed.

I addressed it "c/o The Cast of South Pacific" and got a full cast signed playbill in about 1-2 weeks.

Did you send a letter requesting a Playbill or did you mail them a Playbill to have signed?

I am also going on Saturday night and plan to visit the stage door . . . would be great not to be alone . . . I know it is supposed to be difficult to find right now due to the construction.

I probably will go since I'll buy the program...It's just A) i don't know where to find it. B) I'm going with my Aunt and I don't wanna make her suffer through the stage door.

Some shows just sign them in bulk. A cast member gets a box of playbills, signs them all & passes the box along. Whoever handles the mail then just slips in the playbill.

I know this isn't related to south pacific, but does anyone know if the cast of Promises, Promises does something similar? I didn't get a chance to visit the stage door when I went and I would love to be able to get a signed playbill (esp. from Sean and Kristin)

Most shows do. Just make sure to include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

To answer your question, quizking, I did not enclose a playbill to have the cast sign, I asked for one.

Jcookie - bring any playbill you have to the post office to weigh. Not all playbills weigh the same, but it gets you a good idea.

"The Playbill will be a bit dog-earred as it will be passed around, etc. But at least you'll have it autographed."

Playbills aren't generally "passed around." They usually place them near the sign-in sheet.

"A cast member gets a box of playbills, signs them all & passes the box along"

Playbills in New York don't come in boxes.

Regarding SP stage door...again:

Once you're in the lobby head towards the box office. Walk past the box office and through the doors and down the steps. On your left will be a big mural of the original cast and on your right are glass doors. Walk through the doors and turn right. Walk for a bit and there will be red double doors on your right. There were a few 8x11 pieces of paper posted to point out the stage door.

Playbills in New York don't come in boxes.

Yeah, they're delivered by unicorns. Sheesh. Has anyone tried to mail SOUTH PACIFIC?

Actually, sometimes they do come in boxes, and even if they don't, sometimes people actually put them in boxes as a convenient holder for them while waiting to be signed.

"Sheesh", indeed!

Thanks Ghostlight, that is what I meant. Did Fosse really think the cast members pass around 5 bundles of playbills?
