Grr! I just found out today that the people who take French in my school are going to see Beauty and the Beast in 3 weeks. The teacher is trying to get more tickets (they only had 20 seats available...) which I am hope hope hoping she gets because I want to see Brooke Tansley.
This happened three times before - once with POTO (which I eventually saw) and twice with Les Mis. I saw La Boheme with the French students...the one that I would have least been interested in going to out of all three. What, is this some punishment for taking Spanish?
Has anyone here ever missed out on opportunities on school trips or anything that has to do with a Broadway show because they simply didn't know about it? Sorry had to rant about it.

Yes, Dance of the Vampires and now the Woman in white if it comes to broadway, I live in Arizona which stinks as theatre culture. I like michael a lot but I didnot think I will see him ever again. I did see him in Phantom boy was I lucky, he is such a nice guy. And a true performer.

damn! that sinks! and I take French in my school and we are not going to a play anytime soon, but my chorus class is seeing La Cage aux Folles this year. Last year we saw Phantom, and the year before that Aida.
Anyway, every play that my family has been to has taken me so i guess not. My parents did see rent in 97 but i was just about to turn 7 so yea. lol

millie, also how did you get to go with the French that one year? Extra tickets?
If i were you go to the French organizer person and just say you love theatre, you dont get to go that often, and that if some people bail out if you could go. Then you would have somewhat of a chance, and your name would be on the top of the list.
I just asked because I heard it through the grapevine that there was going to be a trip. Unfortunatley, I didn't hear it the two times they saw Les Mis, one time when they saw POTO (I saw POTO through English class), and now this!
My Spanish teachers were going to take us to see Man of La Mancha, or were considering it, but it closed. And there is really no musical on Broadway that has anything to do with Spain/Mexico/Latino countries or cities. So I showed my teacher a pic of Idina Menzel, and said she looks a bit Hispanic (even though she is Jewish, lol) in hopes of being able to see Wicked with Spanish. See, a trip has to be related to something we are learning.

yea, but what does beauty and the beast have to do with french? the candlestick? lol
My class was supposed to go see Into the Woods, and then it closed. Then we were supposed to go see Dance of the Vampires, and then it closed---so then we went to see Millie.
I had already seen Millie once and ITW once, but never got to see DOTV
The Raul Esparza EVITA came touring through here in '99(?) and I missed it. Not a big fan of EVITA and it got horrid reviews, but it would have been cool to see Mr. Esparza in the flesh.
I skipped out on seeing "Taboo" and everyone gives me crap for it. I look back on it now and I guess I should have. I'm not passing an opportunity like that up again: I WILL be seeing "Dracula" when I'm in town next weekend.
Also, my bestfriend passes up seeing "Avenue Q" at the Vineyard because "it was a stupid puppet show." He gives himself a daily kick in the you-know-what for that one.
I'm still pretty pissed that I missed The Goat or Who is Sylvia? on two seperate occasions. Long storys both of them. Although the first time I missed it I saw Metamorphosis instead, so it balanced out.
Yes! I could have seen ASSASSINS back in March, but I thought it was going to extend into September, so I saw a different show, instead.
And of course I could have seen TABOO but saw something else because I thought it would be around longer, and the not-so-great reviews from critics (not you people, though!!).
And TBFO, as well. I saw something else, because I thought it would be around for awhile.
We missed Prymate . We had tried to get tickets thru TDF but they credited my credit card when the show closed

I really wanted to see "Anna in the Tropics", but because I was doing a show at the time, I did not get to see it. I really wanted to check it out. I knew about it, but still unhappy I missed out on it.

I went to New York In june (just before Millie closed) and wanted to see Aida, Wicked, and either rent or millie. I already had tickets to aida and wicked, and was going to buy a ticket to millie, but when I walked by the nederlander, I just got that 'rent' feeling, and had to see it again! (3rd time). So i passed on millie, and saw rent again. Now i really regret it because I can never see millie again (until a much-hoped for revival!) :)

The one big kicker is that I missed out on Cabaret with Alan Cumming, and Rocky Horror. I wanted to see that show SOOOO bad but my choir director was like "over my dead body!" Ah yes, Sunday in the Park With George too, and that was my own damn fault!-sheesh, now I'm all depressed!

Yes, When I was in 8th grade. My parents got me tiks to Hairspray and made sure it wasn't during my winter concert. (let me give you a little background of my life) in 5th grade i missed spring concert b/c of Kiss Me Kate. 6th grade - larigitis(winter) 7th grade - Lion King(winter). BACK TO STORY... well anyways they moved the concert date to the night of when I was going to see Hairspray. UGH!! My parents said I couldn't miss another concert and gave the tiks away. I would have seen the OBC.
About a year later I got to see Hairspray w/o the OBC but I did have Harvey Firstein. I'm still upset though
I passed on seeing Aida because It was an Elton John/TIm Rice Musical. I thought I would hate the music.
Now, after it closed on broadway and there is no current tour,MY friend forces me to listen to it, and of course I love it.
SO I kick myself for not giving it a whirl and seeing it before it closed. Had I know Adam Pascal was in the OBC< I might have given it a listen.
Wont do that again.
I missed seeing "TopDog/UnderDog." The Sunday matinee started at 2 p.m. and we just assumed it was starting at 3 p.m. I would have loved to have seen Jeffrey Wright and Don Cheadle.

There are so many shows I missed that I wanted to see....
Dance of the Vampires
Taboo
Millie
are just a few
There were a bunch of shows that I wanted to see on Broadway (tours are great, but you just can't compare with an actual Broadway company). But most of them closed (TMM, "Urinetown," "Cabaret") before I could get to New York again. Damn my landlocked exictence!
As for school matinees, I got lucky with those. They were all helmed by the drama teacher, and I was either in one of his classes or scored a permission slip off someone and got to go that way. Good times.
Wicked4Lyfe: Beauty and the Beast is supposed to take place in the French countryside and all the characters have French-sounding names: Lumiere, Gaston, Maurice, etc... so it's probably appropriate for a French class. I hope x 234279427947092174923 they get more tickets!

I was supposed to see tick, tick...BOOM! in New Jersey (with Colin Hanlon & Sarah Litzsinger) back in the spring (scored complimentary tickets & everything), but my ride cancelled on me the night before & I couldn't find anyone who could bring me. *makes face*
I also had plans with my now-roommate to see both Taboo & The Normal Heart in NYC, but both shows closed before we had a chance to go down.
My mom wanted to see Cabaret before it closed, but she forgot to order tickets, & by the time she remembered, they were sold out. *shakes fist*
The first time I was in New York I passed on the opportunity to see the OBC of Kiss Me Kate. I was a dumb 15 year old!!!!!!!!!! But I got to see Jekyll and Hyde instead so that's ok.

The last day of our NYC trip last spring, we had a choice between Gypsy and Sly Fox. Since we had already seen 4 musicals and we all knew Gypsy backwards and forwards, we went with Sly Fox. It occurred to us when we woke up at curtain call that we had made the wrong choice.
