If you search you will find many threads. Here is what I worte in the "Haylie Duff in Hairspay? Is this a joke?" thread :
Hairspray was sold out all 3 shows this weekend. Isnt that enough said? Producers are making their money, people are coming back to see the show again and young teen girls are going to theatre to see someone other than a green witch. I see nothing wrong with this. It worked on me, I went just to se Haylie and I must say, I honestly enjoyed her performance. Was she perfect? No. Was she the best possible person for the role? Probably not. Did she deliver a very good preformance? Yes. Will she get better as time goes on? Im sure. Haylie Duff is not killing Hairspary. She was no better and no worse than anyone else Ive seen in the role. Compared to some other stunt casting in recent years, I think she fit the show very well.

Posted: 8/15/06 at 8:04pmI agree with you, mymancape, and this has nothing to do with her acting, but she's kind of mean. She's got a decent voice though. But she was mean to me.

Posted: 8/15/06 at 8:20pmAt Bryant Park, I went up to her to congratulate her on her Broadway role, and said it must be exciting. She responded, "yeah..." really nonchalantly and picked up her cell phone to call someone. It's the rudest thing I've ever seen.

Well, at least she responded, probably she heard that same thing about 10000 times that day, maybe she really needed to call someone? You should go and "stage door" Hairspray, probably she will be nicer since she is expecting to greet fans after the show.

She has some talent but there is absolutely no doubt she is where she is today because of her sister.
She was alright in Hairspray. To me it seemed like she wasted a role that could have really stood out if done correctly. Dont get me wrong, she kept up with the cast and performed well, but failed to shine. Also, her voice sounded exactly like Karen from "Will and Grace", which was interesting...

Posted: 8/16/06 at 1:49pmI thought she was forgetable. Not good, but not awful either. Becky Gulsvig was fantastic in the role, and really made the character stand out. With Haylie I found I was pretty much just ignoring the character. I met her and she seemed friendly enough and at the stage door she's very sweet to her fans

My friend grew up next to the Duffs and always said that Haylie was the nicer of the two. I thought it was not bad stunt casting and like someone said before it's getting the younger theatre crowd to another show other than Wicked (not that I have anything against it, but there's a lot more theatre to experience). Anyway, I wish I could see her. Glad to see Diana back in about a month or so...she was an amazing Penny.
Cheers,
Christopher

I didn't think she was mean, she was really sweet to us at the stage door. Somebody commented on her dress, she thanked them and said she wears it a lot because it is so hot (it was when there was record-breaking heat a few weeks ago). She gave as many people autographs as she could and we got a picture with her. I said she must be tired (I kinda feel stupid for saying it now, haha) and she was like "oh no it's no problem" (something to that effect).
She wasn't bad, but her singing voice was a little weird. Kind of like how Tracy Turnblad's is or something...with like a little annoying pitch, I don't know how to explain it.

I just recently saw the show and she actually did a very good job. She hit her jokes and vocals are much better. She , in my opinion, has improved so much.

Posted: 8/19/06 at 5:40pmI give the girl credit. She knew she was gonna hear a lot of smack talked about her and no matter who you are, it can sting. She must have a thick skin and a healthy work ethic. She doesn't need to do a Broadway musical. She could just continue to make b-movies with her sister and sing Go-Go's and Madonna remakes. I give her some points for gumption.

Posted: 8/20/06 at 12:02amAnyone with ANY taste in theatre will find her performance deplorable. She can't sing, dance or act. And her presence isn't doing that much for Hairspray, we are entering the busiest few weeks for Broadway shows, so the upswing in attendance cannot be attributed to her wntirely, considering the show certainly does not sell out every performance.
