New York, NY –– Two time Grammy nominated and Tony award winning recording artist Heather Headley’s first single “In My Mind,” off her highly anticipated new album on RCA Records, hits airwaves Sept 26th.
This is the world’s first taste of Heather’s powerful voice since her critically acclaimed debut album This Is Who I Am which garnered her two Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, two BET Award nominations, two NAACP Award nominations, a Soul Train Award nomination and the ultimate recognition: Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best R&B Vocal. The stand out single is produced and written by Grammy nominated, Shannon Sanders and Drew Ramsey.
Heather’s sophomore album is slated for release in mid November and has such top talents as Babyface, Lil’ Jon and Jermaine Dupri working on material for her. More information on the upcoming full length to be released shortly.

Lil' John and Jermaine Dupri.
SH*T. I have a feeling she's going mainstream with this album. Lord I hope not. Because her debut album was antyhing but a mainstream R&B album

But both Heather and her record company want this album to sell far more units than the first album that "only" went gold.
It was clear that she was disappointed in the sales of the first album. And she WANTS to be a mainstream recording artist.

She is pretty popular in the R&B world. "I Wish I Wasn't" was a pretty big hit.
I know and follow R&B. And I will be sad if she sells out.

Posted: 9/17/05 at 10:58pmFriends of Heather have told me that she had a LOT of control on her first album. More than a first-time recording artist would. So now they're pulling the reins a little bit and kind of making her what they want to be. But it seems, like Tennessee said, that she WANTS to be a mainstream artist. I'm excited. She's great.

I think it's possible to have artistic integrity and big sales at the same time.
And Babyface is certainly no hack. Indeed, he's so good at what he does that he makes it look easy. That's why people underestimate his talent.
He may be just the type of producer/writer that Heather needs to strike a healthy balance between art and commerce.

This is in no way exciting if they are going to turn Heather into a Ciara. UGH.
This sounds like another case of what happend with Vivian Green.
Babyface is great, "How Can I Not Love You" from ANNA AND THE KING is amazing.
But come on, Lil' John and Jermaine Dupri? All of Jermaine's stuff sounds the SAME.

It' gets annoying when it goes from Monica, to Mariah Carey, to Usher, etc etc etc.
Someone needs to bring the late and amazing Aaliyah back, the R&B world needs that innovative groundbreaking talented woman back.
Thankfully we still have Faith Evans, Monica and Mary J Blige.

Personally I don't think it's her who wants the mainstream R&B sound. It's obviously the RECORD LABEL.
She is just too good for friggin Lil' John beat used for every one and their mother.
Faith Evans who I would consider a very popular artist in the R&B world, having been around for 10 years now. Finally got on a new record label and is doing music she wants, and loves. And she is still selling great.

Posted: 9/18/05 at 12:36amI love her 1st CD. If she goes mainstream R&B, she's lost me. Her 1st CD was wonderful. I played it along with Kelly Rowland's debut CD for a long time. Both CD's were very fresh and different. Especially Kelly's based on what she puts out with DC. I hope Heather pulls it off.

Okay, that statement calling the album "highly anticipated" does sound like nothing more than PR. Nonetheless, the woman does have a fan base.
Not as big as other popstars. But it's there.

I'm VERY VERY excited about this. I'm sure this will top her 1st CD by far. There's way too much talent there for not to. The projects she's down in between for movie sounds tracks were also GREAT!
Now if she would only come back to broadway.

Well she still sounds great! I can not wait for her new CD.
From what I remember reading a while back was that her record company really didn’t care about her during her first album. But after 2 Grammy nominations, and her other awards they decided to put her on the front burner to make sure her sophomore disc (which can usually kill an artist or band) a success. So they r bringing out all the big guns (producers, song writers, and R&B names).
If this new single is any hint as to what the new CD will sound like, I completely welcome her record companies’ sudden interest in her success! Heather hasn’t lost it! She's an amazing talent and I wish her the best!!

Vocalist Heather Headley will on Jan. 31 release her sophomore RCA album, "In My Mind," which features guest turns by Lil Jon on "Back When It Was" and Shaggy on "Rain." Production was supplied by Babyface and Jimmy Jim and Terry Lewis. The title cut was co-written with Shannon Sanders (India.Arie, Kimberley Locke) and jumps 22-19 this week on Billboard's Adult R&B Airplay chart.
"In My Mind" is the follow-up to 2002's "This Is Who I Am," which peaked at No. 38 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 677,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It garnered Headley Grammy nominations for best new artist and best R&B vocalist.
"I wanted the album to be like a book, almost," Headley says. "Where the songs provide glimpses into my personality, taking you to some very different places musically, and hopefully are full of fun and surprises along the way."

Now, if I was to tell you all that my heart skipped a beat upon reading the title of this thread, what exactly does that say about me?
Oh well, who cares.
