I just saw Hello Dolly for a second time with Bernadette Peters whom I love. I had never seen the show before and I had heard of it from my friend who has told me about the dvd version with Barbra Streisand. The score didn't leave much of an impression on me the first time I saw it, however, having just seen it again I have come to like it and want to add it to my cd collection.
Would anyone know if Bernadette Peters will record a cast album of this Hello Dolly, or should I just buy the Bette Midler version?
Also, aside from Victor Garber, who else is new to the cast with Bernadette Peters?
Charlie Stemp, Molly Griggs, Santino Fontana and Ali Mauzy are the other new principals
Unless Bernadette funds it, don’t expect a cast recording with the replacement cast of HELLO, DOLLY!

I think you're buying Bette, unlikely there will be a new recording for every Dolly.

Thank you for your replies!
I think you're probably right, given the unfortunate state of the music industry in general. However, from what I know, cast recordings are not released until a few months after a show starts. In any case, Bette's version is on my amazon wish list, though here's hoping for Bernadette's!! My stand out favorites are 'I put my hand in,' "Hello Dolly,' and 'Elegance.' I'm hoping to see it one more time, as I read on these boards she's committed to the role until July.

If you do buy in the mea time, get the Carol Channing or Pearl Bailey recordings. They are better than the Bette Midler, which many on this board thought was missing the pizazz of the original cast recording (and Bailey's was also terrific).

Thanks, I'll look into that! The only musical cast recording I have all recordings of is Gypsy, my favorite musical. I'm biased because I love Bernadette Peters' version, and I stood in line to get a signed copy of it when it was released. I liked Bette's version of Gypsy as well.
All DOLLY albums are wonderful in their own way. I agree, Bette's album often lacks the energy and natural impulse that was seen/heard on the stage -- in certain spots. You could argue that a cast recording is not the same as live performance in full swing, however, the other Dolly recordings prove that energy can be carried through a microphone. That said: I listen to the Bette cast every day.
The Bailey/Calloway recording is a treasure to have as it was recorded specifically to preserve that cast as they came into the showin '67. Cast albums were recorded, in most cases, prior to opening night -- so to have the same production record a second cast was really special.
I do wish they would record a few tracks with Bernadette, etc. A sampler CD of sorts would be great if sold at the Theatre.

Different Dolly albums do have different charms. I have all Carol’s, Barbra’s and Bette’s on my FOOTLIGHTS playlist on Spotify. Really need to add Pearl Bailey’s.
BTW, the vinyl packaging for the new Broadway cast is exquisite and the very definition of deluxe.

I had a listen last night on my Itunes and, honestly, I liked Bette's version first and Carol Channing's second. I especially like the song 'Hello Dolly' and Bette sings it quite well. And because Bernadette's version is still fresh in my mind, I like hers more because I think she puts a little more feeling and emotion in hers and her songs in general. I might download the other versions just to have. I must say I wasn't that impressed with Streisand's. And Michael Crawford's 'Elegance' I enjoyed as well.

I would love to start buying vinyls but I have such a massive cd collection that it doesn't pay for me to invest in starting a vinyl one! I have bought a few for sentimental reasons, like a few of my favorite 80s albums just for decor :) Crazy, I know!!

I have almost every recording of HELLO, DOLLY! that's available-- and that includes foreign language productions.(French, German, Brazilian, Italian and Israeli), as well as Dora Bryan's studio recording. Each is special in its own ways, but the otiginal 1964 cast album has a verve that isn't found on the others.

Agreed re your last statement, although I only have purchased maybe 5 over the past 50 years, and at least three have gone into the dustbin when I got rid of my turntable. IMO, the original cast recording's tracks for Sunday Clothes and Hello Dolly may be the most goose-bump inducing (for me) in any cast recording ever; those vocal crescendos are amazing. The current recording, which I listen to frequently if not daily, just doesn't come close by a mile. That said, IMO, Gavin Creel's singing is far superior to Charles Nelson Reilly's, Kate Baldwin's is much more enjoyable to listen to than Eileen Brennan's, and David Hyde Pierce makes a stronger impression than the great David Burns, who also did not have the opportunity to sing 'A Penny in my Pocket' which does so much to explain how Horace became Horace. (Essentially, I like the current recording more for the 'lesser' numbers that I never was really crazy about in the original recording...they sound so much better with better, warmer singers. And, finally, while I like the ending on the current recording, it will never never ever compare to the original reprise from the original recording. That finale has also been known to induce goose-bumps every time I listen to it.
