Help picking shows for July 4th Trip

Hey there BroadwayWorld Community!

You folks have always been helpful in recommending shows, as well as I love being a fly on the wall reading everyone's opinions. My partner, brother and I are finally making trip to NYC to recontinue our tradition of a weeklong marathon of shows. The last time my partner and I went was the week before the world came to a pause. Little did we know at the time we would be part of the last audiences to see shows in NYC before the shutdown. We were fortunate enough to see on that trip, Jagged Little Pill, Company, Girl from the North Country, Hadestown, Six, and Moulin Rouge.

This trip, my partner, brother, and I have the following schedule and we would like suggestions on what to see. For context, my partner is a community theater performer, my brother a stage manager/director, and I work for an Opera company (ticketing), and a LORT Theater (house managing). We generally like most theater, with the one exception was Girl from the North Country (I really wished I had liked it more because I see a lot of positive buzz, especially because my parents brought me up on Bob Dylan.)

We are going July 4th - July 11th and this is our current layout of shows! Again, any recommendations would be immensely helpful.

July 5th - A Strange Loop (Have tickets)

July 6th (Mat) - ...what the end will be (Potentially)

July 6th (Eve) - Funny Girl (Have tickets)

July 7th - Little Shop of Horrors

July 8th - POTUS (Potentially)

July 9th (Mat) - Company (potentially)

July 9th (Eve) - Into the Woods

July 10th - Plaza Suite (potentially)

July 10th - Beetlejuice (potentially)

The ones that say potentially, we haven't bought tickets yet for them and are on the fence. The reason for Plaza Suite, ...what the end will be, and POTUS is because I am in graduate school for Dramaturgy, and all three sound like intriguing plays. Neil Simon is my mothers favorite playwright, which is the reason for Plaza, also as a millennial who used to sneak watching Sex and the City, SJP is queen. The reason for Beetlejuice is we really want to understand the hype around it.

If you have any other suggestions, or thoughts, please let me know!

Definitely recommend seeing Company again. I didn't see it before the shutdown, but from what I've heard, it's a lot better now. A Strange Loop will probably start selling well when it wins the Tony, so it's good you have tickets. I've heard good things about POTUS. I think your selections are solid.

Yes, seem like solid choices. Anything else that popped into my head as other options will be closing by then (Fat Ham, Bedwetter). The only other potential is if you want to do something more serious as there will be productions of both Macbeth & Hamlet playing. Macbeth on Bway for $$$, but Hamlet off-Bway for more reasonable amounts.

Thanks so much Inception! I really highly appreciate the recommendations of Fat Ham and the Bedwetter. I am kicking myself for not getting to NYC sooner. Believe me, if I was there during the runs, I would be there, especially Fat Ham.

Hey there @Ashley0139! Thank you so much for the rec of seeing Company again. Just bought tickets for it before the craziness of the Tony's happens! It will be nice to have a Sondheim Saturday. I am probably going to rush POTUS, which seems like safe thing to do.

I just got email about Fat Ham extending through July 17

Dear mcsquared,

I am unsure whether you manifested this or not, but both Fat Ham and The Bedwetter have extended making the decision of which productions to see even more difficult. Its a great problem to have.

Thanks!

If the rumors are true I think paradise square is closing before the 4th despite Joaquina’s win on Sunday.

Company was amazing so I would definitely recommend it. I saw POTUS a few weeks ago and it was so funny. For POTUS I got rush tickets and I was in the front row of the orchestra. If possible try to sit in the orchestra or the front few rows of the mezzanine or balcony because there was a portion of the show that took place in the aisles of the orchestra. I would also recommend Come From Away. The story is amazing and the music is so good.

I didn't see MJ - The Musical on your list. I think it is well worth seeing especially for Frost's performance and even the two young men that play him as a young MJ. It is better than I expected it to be.

I think POTUS is a must see just for a fun, good laugh night out at the theater. And Rachel Dratch is a pure riot in this show.
