Hercules live action #1

I’d love to see TImothee Chalamet as young Hercules.  I don’t know they’d do it but if they were double casting. Cheyenne Jackson as the buff Herc. OR Austin Butler

Phil- I’d have Danny Devito and  James Wood reprise.
I definitely DO NOT was Ariana Grande as Meg.
I think it would be such great features to have some of the Gods played by the greatest - Zeus (Morgan Freeman or James Earl Jones or Anthony Hopkins ) and Hera (Julia Roberts or Meryl Streep).

it’ll be interesting how they intend to stylistically work with it.  Every live action I always hope that they go with real theatre people and they somehow always avoid it. Which is disappointing

No way James Woods is going to reprise the role of Hades. He's so toxic at this point that he's practically radioactive.

I was thinking of who could fill his shoes, and I ended up coming around to the possibility of Robert Downey, Jr. He has a similar fast-talking charisma and obviously has the Disney connection.

Elizabeth Gillies would be a perfect live action Meg, she has Meg's sarcasm down to a T. Zendaya would also be a great choice. How about Jeff Goldblum as Hades? John Mulaney and Nick Kroll as Pain and Panic? But they need to get Danny DeVito back to play Phil.

I suspect we should be throwing out names that are either Mediterranean, reflecting the setting, or Black, reflecting the pivot towards Hercules as a black franchise (also reflected in the stage show).

I have very low expectations for this after what Guy Ritchie did to "Aladdin".

Because nothing says "young demigod out to prove himself with a classic hero's journey" like a man who's less than a month away from turning 47.

The remakes are so soulless anyway they might as use AI. It’ll still make a billion dollars and then be immediately forgotten.

There was a rumor that they were planning to Mulan this and not make it a musical.

I’m not inherently supposed to the concept of adapting a musical Disney property into a non-musical. I think it made sense for Mulan, even though the movie didn’t end up actually being that good.

But I think they’d be foolish to do it for Hercules. Unlike the other cases, Hercules has minimal brand power on its own; the film is remembered mostly because of its 4(?) great songs, and maybe for a couple of its supporting voice performances. Not really for the story, or for its central character.

By contrast, Mulan’s songs are perhaps equally beloved as, if not less than, the story and the protagonist.

Earlier this spring there was a Hercules workshop at New 42 and Bryce Pinkham was involved, but idk the role. It may have been working sessions for the film or for a future stage life. Disney is going to need a new property when Aladdin runs out of steam.

Hercules is having its "Indoor premiere" at the Paper Mill early next year, so I assume they're making edits to the Central Park version for this.

With Roger Bart stuck in the West End, Pinkham would probably make a good Hades....

Going back to the films, Aladdin 2019 was one of the most average movies ever to belong to a genre that has gained so much hate for its inherent "average-ness", but considering that Hercules is probably the Disney movie most similar to Aladdin in story and tone, it makes sense to bring Ritchie back for this one.
