Good god you guys, stop being so dramatic.
Disney isn't going to go away, and neither is High School Musical. Sure, it's not the best thing ever written, but it definitely has the potential to be fun. I mean, how many sub-par, fun musicals with droves of annoying fans have there been in the past few years? Broadway hasn't died yet.
If it's not your cup of tea walk a few blocks and see something else.
the only thing is my friends classify it as Broadway. I practically want to spit at them. If it did come to Broadway, I would just boycott the show, unless Hunter Foster was in it. Which I would be unhappy about.
WOW I didn't mean to get everyone so upset I was just asking a question and I quess it's turned into a "we hate disney" thing.
Anyway I have mixed fellings about this because A) HSM was so 2006 and is over and done with and B) it will bring people to broadway who wouldn't go to broadway shows and might make them want to see other shows. So I'm a little torn between the two.

I'm chicken- will someone please just shoot me?!
The story would probably work better as a stage musical.
I seriously tried to watch it. I probably would have liked it better if Zac Efron was not in it, because I do have the soundtrack. He is absolutely HORRIBLE. That is why I am so upset about Hairspray, but, as usual, we have to attract the people who don't really give a sh*t about Broadway. Yeah, economy sucks.
It's not going to happen (on Broadway at least.)
A parent would not spend $400.00 for the family to see a lame Disney show with no special effects and a crappy score with no big names attached to it. The target audience (7-15 year olds) cannot afford to pay to see a Broadway show.
And lets face it -- the success of the show is due to the actors in it. If a 9 year old kid is obsessed with Zac Efron and finds a random boy from New Jersey is playing Troy, she'd be pretty pissed.
What's wrong with trying to reach a new audience?
^nothing really. its just that i wish people would be attracted to something good instead of something that makes me sick.

I had a heart attack when I saw the title of this thread. I would be in the party of killing myself.
"What's wrong with trying to reach a new audience?"
It's good to try and reach a new audience -- which Spring Awakening and Rent are doing -- but this "new audience" won't even be able to pay for a ticket. It just won't work. I'm a 15 year old fan of Broadway and I have to save up all the money I earn to see a show. And a kid 5 years younger than me? It just won't happen.
^ I agree.
I thought it was cute, not great. It's certainly not so awful that it making it to Broadway should mean my suicide.
No my friends, I'm saving that for the day that Hilary Duff stars in her own musical and wins a Tony.
A lot of kids already make it to the other Disney shows.
Yes, because parents drag their kids to see it, not the other way around. With names like Phil Collins, Elton John, beautiful costumes and special effects, Broadway record breakers like Beauty and the Beast -- those are things that will never get old and are for people of all ages. I don't think a bunch of senior citizens and a couple on a date would go and see High School Musical over Beauty and the Beast or the Lion King.

Well, my Dad thought the movie was cute as well...
What else is there that's so much more promising than High School Musical?
Honey, any of their animated films have more stage potential than High School Musical...just think Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Aladdin, Alice, Jungle Book, Hunchback...I could go on forever!

The stage version has a better book, they cut out a lot of the cheese, it has more character depth, two new songs, and it's just better on stage. I wouldn't be thrilled if it went to Bway, but I wouldn't mind a tour at all.

I just heard a radio ad for the HSM ice show...I died a little.
I would say that most families would not take a trip to New York to spend hundreds of dollars on tickets to see the live version of a movie they own. However, a musical like this one would most likely be a success, simply because of the cult following of the movie. I still have not seen the movie (Yes, I must live under a rock or something) so, therefore, I can't say if it would be a decent stage show.
By the way, weren't they casting for a stage show at Disneyland or Disney World for HSM not too long ago? I would guess that they will trial the success of that show and the tour before taking it to Broadway.
Can anyone tell me of any High School Musical endeavour that hasn't been a smashing financial success?
"I'm saving that for the day that Hilary Duff stars in her own musical and wins a Tony."
I am with you on that one! I don't mind her sister, but Hilary is just... ugh!
I will admit that if Hilary Duff were to win a Best Actress Tony for her role in the Tony winning "High School Musical" I just might have to phone a suicide intervention line.
I suspect I'd get a busy signal.
I can actually see a professional cast doing this show... as horrible as it may be.

I thought there was a touring company for this show? One came to my city. Maybe it was a community company and I just didn't know.
