I did a search to see if anyone else had posted anything about this and couldn't find anything so here goes...
I saw an audition notice for dancers for High School Musical. It said it was in New York and that it was a "Production" show(meaning for broadway or tour). It also said that it was opening May 29th 2007. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?
I'm sorry if this has been posted before if so I mush have just not looked hard enough, if that is the case I'm sorry.
They are sending out a national tour. who knows if it will end up on Broadway, but it wouldn't surprise me if it did given it's popularity...

I would join you.

I can just see the headline: "High School Musical Opens on Broadway; Mass Suicides Sweep Nation".
Well, it would probably make 80 jillion dollars.
It's got a better score than Tarzan. (I guess that's not saying much)
Life will still be worth living. I hope you will all try to find something to hold onto, some scrap of meaning to motivate you to continue living when this show makes its inevitable appearance on Broadway.
(Where it will be the biggest hit Disney has had since Lion King.)
dear God...I think I would kill myself.
The movie was awful, and they(Disney) just need to move on.
I hear they're making a 3rd installment of the movie, and they're not even done making the sequel.
SAVE US!!
As tragic as it is that this is where broadway may be headed, at least it may catch the attention of the teeny boppers and introduce a new generation to the magic of live theatre. That being said, I'd rather they fell in love with GOOD shows. At this point I think hsm on broadway is unavoidable
I will go into hiding in Latvia if this happens. High School Musical teenyboppers make me want to shave my eyebrows.
If that would ever happen I would honestly lose all faith in Broadway.

I'm gonna let you all in on a little secret.
What Disney's doing with High School Musical is called "banking on success and taking the money."
You'd do the same.
Yes, we have High School Musical on stage, on ice, on kid's book covers, new movies in production etc. etc.
It seems there's an interest in this thing. What Broadway show wouldn't love to have this sort of exposure? What Broadway marketing firm wouldn't kill to be able to create this sort of buzz?
I also don't understand why so many of you ponder suicide over this show, given that the possible alternatives from Disney include Hercules the Musical, Alladin the Musical, Telletubbies the Musical and so on. Doesn't High School Musical represent a significant step up in sophistication for this producer?
I strongly believe that the only reason this show isn't on Broadway already is that Disney's theatrical division can't bear to admit that the guys at the cable channel have created a stronger score and more appealing show than they've been able to in years.

Disney would be smart to put a musical under their name that kids can relate to because it's set in modern times.

Yes, High School Musical is a lot more sophisticated than the animated films... not. Not even steps up, more like 10 floors down.

I understand that the show works very well on stage--has anyone seen a stage version?
Even MichaelBennett (Yes, our beloved poster...who has been MIA for the last few days) said that he really enjoyed it. He said it was like Grease with all the profanity, drinking and shinnanigans cut out.
It might be a good show on stage. Who knows?
>> It might be a good show on stage. Who knows?
Well, perhaps. With a new book.
And perhaps new lyrics.
Oh, and a new score.
Otherwise, let us all pray for Broadway if indeed this is what it takes to get teeny boppers interested in the magic of live theatre. Perhaps we should also be looking at the scores of businessmen who come to NY every year and see them as an untapped market. Perhaps they could be inticed with musical versions of COYOTE UGLY and perhaps something based on the Hooters chain.
It seems with the right cast it might be an enjoyable camp-fest.

Ouch, you really got me with that old "not" trick.
Lion King was a beautiful movie, and it was made into a beautiful musical. Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid both have great scores. I've heard rumors of Julie Taymor adapting Pinnochio. What else is there that's so much more promising than High School Musical?
Please God No. I like Rap better, and I despise Rap. If it comes to Broadway, I will move to another state because I will be so disgusted.
High School Musical is going to be an ice show (please, no...) and that will be at Madison Square Garden in September.
