I was searching www.ebgames.com, and I happened to come across what appears to be a High School Musical video game that's to be released in August. From what I can tell it involves singing with a microphone attachment. I guess it will be on the PS2, Nintendo DS, and Wii console.
Personally I think this is ridiculous.
Sorry if this has been posted before or if it belongs on the off-topic board.

Here's a "Short Description" of the DS version:
"The six High School Musical friends have decided to sign up for a National Musical competition. With the help of Kelsi and each other, they signed up and travel across America performing songs and dances to prove they have what it takes to earn the prestigious “America’s best amateur Musical” title."

Well, the DS game came out already. I guess they're waiting for HSM2 to air before hurling the Wii game out, just to make sure public consciousness of the HSM brand is at a high. ^_^

It's interesting to see that this is being attempted, considering what a dismal failure the "Les Mis" game for the X-box was.
Isn't the "America's Best Amateur Musical" contest actually taking place in New York on June 10?

There was talk of a "Les Mis" video game a few years ago, but this never materialized.
The computer sound cards currently on the market tend to overheat and short out when forced to play back that many ballads, and none of them can create synthesizer sounds that are cheesey enough.
Andrew Lloyd Webber at one point was saying he wanted Really Useful Group to focus on making board games, but I don't think any of those ever came out either.

Have you seen it in stores? Ebgames.com says it comes out at the same time as the Wii and PS2 version.

I'm pretty sure I already have. Along with Hannah Montana and The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody.

'scuse me while I go hurl... I can't even bring myself to attend my youngest son's Middle School Concert as the whole d@$#^$& thing is the abominable noise from this terrible show.He finds himself humming a random snippet and thank God the van has automatic door locks or his opera and MT singing sister would try and jump out!
Enough- how much of this schlock can they foist on these youngsters before an entire generation loses whatever appreciation they may have developed for "real theatre"?

Not getting the negativity here. HSM is for kids, as is the game. Would you rather have the kids invade the school and shoot everyone up? I thought most people here actually liked the arts and would encourage them over a mindless violent game.

This game is not "the arts." It's simply a way for disney to drain every penny from the HSM fans (or their parents). Disney RARELY makes a worthwile game, just look up the reviews. The only good game they've been involved with lately is Kingdom Hearts. So while I try not to get mad at HSM fans, this just crosses the line.
Also I could get into a big argument with you over violent games and kids, but I will refrain myself. There are lots of other kid friendly games that children can choose to play other than this piece of crap. Comparing our hatred toward HSM to school shootings is just sick and wrong.

First of all, pretty much most of Disney's games that are based on their TV series or movies are horrible, unoriginal plot-wise, and NOT FUN. Fluffy games that are not fun make kids more angry than a blood-and-gore shooter. This game will probably be no exception.
Second, I play violent games all the time, that doesn't mean I'm a violent person, that's just stereotyping.

Actually, I may have been talking out my ass when I said the HSM DS game was already out. I can't find hide nor hair of an already-available copy now. Oh well. ^_^
If I ever go on a killing spree, you have my permission to blame video games. Make sure it's 'Dark Chronicle'; it's the greatest game I've ever played but gets almost no love. It could totally use the publicity.
Waaaay off-topic there... how about a Broadway-themed Singstar? I'd buy that SO fast it wouldn't even be funny.
