To be honest, "The Cast of SMASH In: Chicago" could make for a half-decent show, featuring Christian Borle as Amos, Mary Sunshine and the Master of Ceremonies, Anjelica Huston as Mama, and Jack Davenport as Billy Flynn.

I wonder if they'll get Vegara back for Mama? I quite enjoyed her on Broadway. She's certainly a bigger name than she was back then (I had no clue who she was when I saw the show).

the purpose of the Hollywood Bowl musical ... is to be sort of a "community theatre for celebrities" in which performers who want to do a stage show but can't make the commitment can do a show in an (expectedly) all-star cast for a very packed house

How about Michael C. Hall as Billy Flynn? After all, he has done the show on Broadway.

I have heard the same. In fact not heard, I know. The problem with the show is that there is little to no rehearsal time. The Bob Fosse style is really important and the Bowl isn't paying for folks to fly from NYC so they have to do it with Locals. The show is in great hands with Brooke at the helm and Greg Butler setting it. Greg has been apart of the show for over a decade so he is wonderful. I know for sure that Juliana Laufer is in for sure. As for the rest can't say. My vote is Valarie Pettiford doing Velma again! SHE WOULD BRING THE HOUSE DOWN!!!!! Or better yet get BRENDA BRAXTON. Anyway I know the Bowl needs stars but Chicago isnt meant for all... So Velma will be someone who has done the show.
