the purpose of the Hollywood Bowl musical ... is to be sort of a "community theatre for celebrities" in which performers who want to do a stage show but can't make the commitment can do a show in an (expectedly) all-star cast for a very packed house
Except they apparently have a very loose definition of celebrities.

Posted: 5/21/13 at 6:26pmI have heard the same. In fact not heard, I know. The problem with the show is that there is little to no rehearsal time. The Bob Fosse style is really important and the Bowl isn't paying for folks to fly from NYC so they have to do it with Locals. The show is in great hands with Brooke at the helm and Greg Butler setting it. Greg has been apart of the show for over a decade so he is wonderful. I know for sure that Juliana Laufer is in for sure. As for the rest can't say. My vote is Valarie Pettiford doing Velma again! SHE WOULD BRING THE HOUSE DOWN!!!!! Or better yet get BRENDA BRAXTON. Anyway I know the Bowl needs stars but Chicago isnt meant for all... So Velma will be someone who has done the show.
