after his win last year, and his major ability to host, my vote goes to...
BILLY CRYSTAL

David Hyde Pierce. He's always so dry and funny and charming on the talk shows, I would love to see him host something. TV viewers know him, and now that he's done Spamalot, he'd qualify as a "Broadway" person.
Of course, in a perfect world, the Tonys would be hosted by Rod and Johnny T.

Um, David Hyde Pierce qualified for a Broadway person and much more important a Theatre person long before Spamalot.

Carol Channing and LL Cool J?
I think Billy Crystal would have been the best choice last year, though the segment at the beginning with him and Hugh Jackman was hillarious.

I love Hugh Jackman as much as the next person, but give him a break. I don't want to see the same person host year after year.

I still say Martin Short...and maybe he could co-host with Patti LuPone.

OOOH. I think Liza Minelli & Brooke Shields hosting together would be so hot.

Anyone but Hugh... Sorry, but I just think he's obnoxious, especially in person. I'd much rather see Lane and Broderick or Fierstein and O'Donnel.
I hold a degree in Musical Theatre from Montclair State University. It is useless. Now I'm funny for money. Oh, and I sing.

Carol Channing hosting an awards show? Oh my.

Why COULDN'T Ewan McGregor host? He did Guys and Dolls in the West End, he did Moulin Rouge... it's stretching, but hey. Aretha Franklin and Hugh Jackman singing 'Somewhere' was stretching.
But I love the idea of David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azaria.

WHOOPI!!!!!! SHE SHOULD DO IT!!!
It just came to me. She is hilarious and has been on B'way. Whatever it is, I don't want Hugh back. It got old fast and this last Tony Awards was dull.
Munkstrap-I think it ws you who complimented my avatar...THANK YOU!! You sure do know good music that isn't B'way.

my three choices;
David Hyde Pierce, he's new to broadway so give him the opportunity
Hugh has been amazing each year he's done it.
Norbert Leo Butz would be absoulty hilarious, he'd add a witty sence of humor

1) Harvey Fierstein and Rosie O'Donnell
2) Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick
3) Billy Crystal (unless he hosts the Oscars)
Those are the most realistic choices.
Honestly - do you think the ratings could drop any lower to the point where a host with a big name matters? They could have ANYONE do it and the ratings would still stay virtually the same or slightly go down.
So why not have Broadway people do it? Rosie & Harvey is my #1 choice. Then Lane and Broderick. Uma Thurman and Will Ferrall could present an award together!
If they're going to bring in a BIG name, have it be someone worth it. You go to all the trouble of getting [Insert big movie star name here] to host and then the ratings don't even go up!
The choice for host is not what the League needs to worry about to get a bigger audience. Why not have a pull? Some sort of contest where during a segway into a break, there is a contest to win a trip to New York and see the "Best Musical" Broadway show. Or win a car. Isn't or wasn't Cadiallac a sponsor?
Have a special sneek peak of an upcoming major movie be a commercial during the Tonys.
And whatever the gimmick is, advertise it.
Remember the King Kong trailer? "WATCH (What was it? Season Premiere of Big Brother?) AND SEE THE WORLD PREMIERE OF THE NEW 'KING KONG' MOVIE!"

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Broderick and Lane would be entertaining for all of about 5 seconds before everyone would be ready to shoot them...they'd just be so predictable.

Okay, as much as I think Hugh Jackman did a great job these past 3 years, I really think we need to get someone else. They should be a Broadway veteran, for example Bernadette Peters.
