How about Disney's Snow White on Broadway?

I love the idea of a Snow White broadway show. Although it should be noted that a production Disney's Snow White played a four-week engagment at the Radio City Music in 1979 in which they added new elements, songs and characters that were not present in the film (like Luna, the Queen's handmaiden and Snow White's father, the King). But I think that Disney should take elements from that production and elements from the Disneyland version and combine them. If you don't beleive me on the 1979 Radio City version go to YouTube and type in Snow White Live at Radio City. They have a few clips. What do you think?

But Snow White terrifies little children, and few other people would want to see it!

Posted: 8/29/09 at 7:12pmI would actually agree with that, too, if she took enough elocution lessons to mask her accent. She certainly looks the part, but the accent would be distracting. And hey, I haven't seen you around these parts lately!

Posted: 8/29/09 at 7:17pmYeah, I took time off of here for a while. I was in Europe for a long time this year, and I kinda stopped posting on all forums, not just this one, but I'm going back to the US in in a few weeks, so I'll probably be posting more often once I get there.

Posted: 8/29/09 at 8:11pmI feel like the whole Dwarves aspect would be difficult to do well, without being considered offensive or discriminatory. Also, isn't Snow White kind of bland? She's not really a very dynamic character.

Posted: 8/29/09 at 8:15pmMy biggest problem with Snow White is that it switches between being this frilly, fluffy, saccharine thing and then DARK AND SCARY AND HORRIFYING at the drop of the hat, and that's really jarring and ight not work well on stage, especially since modern audiences are very different from the audiences of the 1930's. I can see some creepy gothic production going down, but I can't imagine that'd be too successful.

Posted: 8/29/09 at 8:32pmPersonally in my opinion I found "Hunchback" yo more scarier than "Snow White" because of Frollo. Come on the "Hellfire" sequence was pretty intense and Frollo was more scarier, evil and insane than the Evil Queen/Hag even though she was a (ahem) bitch. But that's just me.

Did any of you see Snow White an Enchanting New Musical at Disneylands Fantasy land theatre it played from Summer 2004-summer 2006 now that was Broadway material
but for adding more songs add a comical traditional broadway number for the queen and the mirror, I want the good times back type song for the queen. expand the role of the prince and add an ensemble.

Posted: 8/29/09 at 8:35pm"Hellfire" is by far one of the best songs from that movie and the stage adaptation. Same with opening. I love the chanting. The songs are so haunting, yet beautiful.

Posted: 8/29/09 at 8:41pmgypsy4 so far from what I'm seeing in this one I like. It is much more pretty than the other. The only thing I'm not a fan of are the animal costumes. My mom was listening in from the other room and she said, "Is that Sierra Boggess?" lol

Newsies is being created to be part of the MTI catalogue for high schools and community theatres as it has been stated for many years now.
as for snow white the thing I liked about the DL version they took a new direction with it they gave it the broadway treatment. I wasn't sold on the radio city version it looked like the cast was performing a verbatim copy of the movie on stage.

Posted: 8/29/09 at 9:06pmYeah, I think Hunchback is a much darker show, but you can make it uniformly dark and attract wider audiences than Snow White, in my opinion... but I think Frollo is the scariest (and best) Disney villain, even if he's nothing like Frollo from the book.

Do you think hunchback will ever be revisited in the US
And also is there an album or was the music ever released?
I'd like to hear some

Posted: 8/29/09 at 9:33pmI don't think Frollo is the scariest. He may be the scariest man, but I think Maleficent is far more evil. My favorite disney villain is Ursula and I think she's pretty damn scary

"I feel like the whole Dwarves aspect would be difficult to do well, without being considered offensive or discriminatory."
The roles could all be performed by men on their knees, with tiny legs strapped to their thighs!
There are still rumors of Der Glockner von Notre Dame being reworked for Broadway. I'm seriously hoping those turn out to be true, and if they are, I hope Disney doesn't cut back on the darkness of the German show for American audiences. Every time I see a clip of the very end, where Esmeralda dies and the entire cast sings a reprise of Someday/Bells of Notre Dame while Quasimodo carries her body across the stage, I get shivers. It's one of Alan Menken's very, very best scores (okay, minus 'A Guy Like You'), and to see such a good score set to a deeper story than the movie is just amazing.
(And I think Frollo is the creepiest villain. None of the other villains seem to want to rape the main characters. My personal fave is Maleficent, because she's just so darn cool. The part where she gets all sarcastic and says that she'll release Phillip to rescue Aurora when he's old and frail is awesomely cruel.)
