How do you handle inappropriate theatre employees?
#0How do you handle inappropriate theatre employees?
Posted: 7/3/04 at 3:22amI recently had a very awkward experience with a theatre box office employee and I need some advice and help! My husband ordered our tickets online and telecharge instructed us to pick up these these tickets from the theatre box office. When I gave the box office person my credit card, he started making fun of us because he recognized our names on the card; so we saw the same show a couple of times. He insisted on asking me how many times we saw the sane show, but didn't believe me when I told him I only saw it 3 times, and bought more tickets as presents to give to our clients and relatives, etc. He really made me feel awkward and defensive. I'd hate to stop seeing a show that I love, just because the theatre employees are nosy and inappropriate. So, I'm curious if anybody here has some good advice for us? Thank you very, very, much.

Posted: 7/3/04 at 5:28amWait, there are inappropriate theater employees? My advice is, take comfort in knowing that as miserable as he tried to make you feel, he's that much more miserable with himself. Those box office people, for the most part, are a troubled lot.

Posted: 7/3/04 at 8:33amQuietly but firmly Challenge them. "What exactly is the point you are trying to make? I just want to be clear because the impression I am getting is you do not want my business. Is That correct?" Quiet but firm @ all times. perhaps they were just trying to be "funny/friendly" & missed by a mile.

Posted: 7/3/04 at 9:38amOh my, I've had this happen also. I am always prepared for rudeness ahead of time, since the majority of service people make it a habit, so it was no problem. I once went to a show three nights in a row and got the same B/O person each time. The second night he gave me a second look but didn't say anything, but I could tell he recognized me from the night before. The third night he asked who in the show I was stalking. I replied "What?" He asked again, slightly louder. I said "What's that?" He said it again, even louder, where the other person in the B/O and people in line heard it loud and clear. I asked "Repeat that?" He slammed my tickets down and I smiled, said "Thank you" and turned away.

Posted: 7/3/04 at 10:01amI know the feeling. Last summer I had to do B.O. dropoff's all the time. These people are on a power trip for no good reason. At one point I remember a guy being so rude to me,and then finding out I was from the Producers office. He got a oh **** look on his face and started sucking up really fast ...lol

Posted: 7/3/04 at 10:12amIt might have been that he was trying to be funny and missed; I've seen I Am My Own Wife three times with various people, and have gotten to know the box office staff well to the point where, when I picked up the tickets the third time, he jokingly said "You know, the show hasn't changed since the last time." Could have been a situation like that where his humour just didn't translate.

It's like when I went to see Hairspray.
I saw teh Mother's day matinee and the box office man that morning was VERY nice and VERY helpful. I returned for The Wednesday matinee and the man working there that day was EXTREMELY rude and not at all helpful. But teh rest of the wonderful Neil Simon staff, several of whom I had cobversations withoutside, and having Aja Maria's delightful mother as my usher and intermission chat buddy made up for it.
