Do you put theatre related recordings in with the Cast Recordings, or do you put them at end? For example, would you put Barbara Cook's Broadway (which was technically a show) in with the Cast Recordings? What about Audra's albums, Unsung Sondheim, etc?

I'd put cast recordings first-and then theater related recordings after. (In my CD case). I'm a organized freak with my CD case...
That's what I'm doing. What about events like Barbara Cook's Broadway or Elaine Stritch At Liberty? Shows or theatre related?
Parks, want to maybe come over and help me organize my collection? It's not organized at all. And you're very cute. :)
I used to organise them by composer in few huge CD wallets (I move around too much to have them all in their cases) but as my collection expanded, it grew too difficult to keep shifting CD's around so now they are organised in a bizarro system based on psychic divination that only I have the power to understand. I know exactly where every one is but have no logical idea how I possess this sixth sense. It's the voodoo....
I just organized mine, except for what to do with the misc stuff. I feel more centered though. Less chaos.

I have my signed LSOH revival cd on top(since it's a different case than the others) and then from there, they are all alphabetized starting with All Shook Up and going down to Urinetown, and then on the bottom, in alphabetical order are Assassins and The Frogs(again different cases from the others).

I have a case for my CDs, with the first three pages (4 CDs each) my Sondheim section, ordered by time they were written. After that, I have the multi CD recordings with each other (i.e., Rent, Les Miz, Ragtime, etc.), but not in chronologically.
I first put cast recordings in first (grouping them by composers) and then theatre related recordings afterward.
I put the new shows on top, then the rest in order of my favourites. My Les Misérables CRs have a special place though, because they are double discs and don't fit in my tower of CRs. Normal CDs come last. They have a crappy little holder.
alphabetically..on my ipod
Yeah, all of my CD's are ripped to iTunes and on my iPod and that is where I listen to them. I rarely touch the CD's except to rip them and then put them away.
I keep all my cast albums in an antique-looking music chest. I organize them in neat little sections: The Sondheim corner, the Adam Guettel corner(it's only 3 cds but he deserves his own space next to Steven so they can chat), the Off-Broadway corner, the theatre-related section, and the rest are Broadway cast recordings which are in order of the year they were recorded.

Organize? I have most of my cast recordings in an old Build-A-Bear box.

I just have them placed in ABC order... it gets so annoying when I have to reorganize them to put in a new cast recording... but it's worth it though....
It's weird this was brought up today, because I was at the library today and they had an Audra McDonald CD in the "Musicals" section and I thought it was strange that they had it there.
I keep mine in alphabetical order on my iTunes/iPod, the CDs are just in stacks on the shelf.
.... on the floor of my car... They just spilled.
They used to be alphabetized.

Ummm all my CD's (not just broadway) are in alphabetical order.... then when it comes to shows I have multiple recordings of, they go in order of appearance so to speak.
Example:
Chicago 1975
Chicago revival 1996
Chicago London 1998
Chicago Movie 2002
(yeah yeah, it IS sad I own all of those.... hush you all lol)

I don't organize them. For some reason I have a better time finding things when they're not in any order.

Just in alphabetical order. Everything theatre related is together (including movie soundtracks like Chicago).
I don't organize mine either. All my music is in random order.
bah, who needs organisation? I somehow know where all my CDs og any kind are even though they are randomly scattered around my bedroom.

Temporal order, by Year and then within that in the order of the most successful before the less successful.

I organize mine by case color using the roy g. biv system - like an audio rainbow. It takes me much longer to find anything, but it looks GREAT! The voices suggested this approach.

LOL, Glindafan, that is the most original way of organizing I've heard for ages...
