#2Should I go and see One Man Two Guvnors UK tour?
Posted: 4/17/14 at 11:53amYou do realize there is a West End board, and you're asking these on the Broadway one? Just seems like you're likelier to get a reply where people are likelier to have seen the shows you're referencing.

Posted: 4/17/14 at 12:05pmI did know about the west end forum. For some reason I thought I was in that forum thanks for letting me know. I will re- edit my post as this show has been to Broadway.

The Broadway version was amazing! I never laughed so hard at a show. The spontaneity was great and the audience ate it up! I saw it with the original cast and heard the understudy for the lead was terrific! If you get an understudy, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Enjoy!

As it seems that the OP lives in the UK, what wrong with asking for comments on the Bway production, which the OP evidently didn't see?
And Sam, it was an exhilarating production.

Posted: 4/17/14 at 12:54pmThe thread was originally about the UK tour, which is why I pointed out that there is a West End board, where people might actually know the answer.

Do you ever go see a play that -- seemingly -- everyone in the Western Hemisphere is raving about and find yourself scratching your head in wonderment about what they experienced?
I saw the West End production last year -- my first time seeing the play. Though I know I was seeing the third (or even fourth) cast to assume the play since its London debut -- I was monumentally disappointed. After reading all of the accolades -- from critics and audience members and after seeing all the buzz about the Broadway transfer I was so jazzed to finally catch the play in London. I happen to be British, though I've lived in the US most of my life. I tend to love a wide variety of British humor -- from the lowbrow to the high. I found ONE MAN painfully unfunny. So crassly obvious from start to finish. I felt like I was watching a paraody of a British panto or a 2 hour Mad TV sketch. I'm still puzzled at this play's success.
I know I sound like AfterEight when he discusses Sondheim. But, seriously, did anyone else have a disappointing experience with this play? I feel like most people loved it.

I hadn't laughed so hard in a theater since the 1995 Jerry Lewis-led tour of DAMN YANKEES.

Posted: 4/18/14 at 8:58amI swear, I get a smile on my face just thinking about this production. It remains one of my favorite theatergoing experiences, maybe ever.

I loved it so much. Saw it twice. A hoot through and through.
(I hated Curtains, so I know how you feel being in the small minority!)
