We just had a production here at the Fringe Festival done by a high school alumni group. It was glorious.
I'm not implying that it's NEVER done....a previous OP suggested it had made gads of money through licensing, and I don't remember it being produced in abundance, that's all

Which fringe festival was it? Know the name of the high school alumni group?

I would say it is pretty clear that it has not made bucket loads of money from subsequent productions both because there have not been that many and because there have been few if any that are not low revenue affairs. The gross revenue to the original production from a fringe production would be a few hundred dollars, if that.
One other thing about this comparison. Xanadu did not do well on Broadway but it did a heck of a lot better than HOH.

Edmonton Fringe. Strathcona High School Alumni.
XANADU may have lost its money in New York, but it ran for more than a year on Broadway, toured for a year and a half, and was done a decent amount regionally. (But it was based on a cult classic movie.)
For what it's worth, I've also heard that HOH got some extra money to try to keep it going through the end of the year. If it runs 5 or 6 months on Broadway, maybe it could squeak out a non-equity tour? If Bright Star and Bridges can do it...
running through the end of the year will cost millions based on the reality of grosses to date, which a reasonable person would expect to drop when faced with new shows in the fall rather than the anemic summer competition. It'll take quite some tour to even scratch a dent in that loss. And I have yet to see a show that succeeded on tour because it ran 5-6 months instead on 2-3, etc...
what we have here, as we have had in other laughers, is a show that someone loves and doesn't mind wasting a tub of gold to see continue.

Is it possible they're trying to hold out till May/June hoping to pull some Tonys?

is it possible? anything is possible in the theatre. is it likely the Shuberts intend to let them persist, no matter how stoopid they are? Nope.
Shows that aren’t making money don’t just “hang on for 9-10 months” in hopes of some Tony nominations.

What say do the Shuberts have in the matter? The show is in the Hudson, it’s not a Shubert house. Don’t feel TOO “stoopid”!

Given the influx of late on here, being wrong isn't rare. Admitting it and moving on are...
