It's one of my favorite shows on Broadway right now and without a doubt, the funniest one of them and I was wondering how much longer you all think it'll last?
I think it'll stay for a few more years (it's a small theater, a cheap show to keep going etc)...but who knows?
What do you all think?
Less than a year, but I'm no expert (and will catch hell for this)

I would say months. People seem to like the new cast a lot less and even just before bolger left for les miz, it was around 65% full at her final perf.
i would say months too.... but it deserves to go on for so much longer!
I'm not sure it does. It's had a healthy run, it's toured, it's recouped. That's nothing to sneeze at. I put it in the category of "fun diversion." I think a 2.5 year run is perfectly respectable for this show.
No matter what happens, this show is going to have crazy success with community and high school productions. It's perfect for that type of thing.

It's an amazing show, but I'd have to say it's time is waning. I frankly don't like the new cast at all. I think it just might be the next musical to announce closing. Tickets haven't been selling that well, just as with Company and Grey Gardens. Great shows all of them, but closed/closing nonetheless How has Avenue Q doing at the moment?
It's going to close before Avenue Q, I can tell you that. I think Avenue Q is doing alright.
I saw the seven on Broadway that were in San Francisco and I saw the OBC minus Baskin in Los Angeles. I thought both casts were excellent. Of course had I see the OBC first, who knows if I’d feel the same?
And yes this will do well in community productions because it can be done cheaply. It may even cost more for the rights than it does to put on the show itself.
I hope it last longer. My friend from high school is in the new cast...hope she isn't part of the new cast that no one likes.
I think it's certainly run as long as it deserved, if not far longer.
I love the show, but I don't see it lasting that much longer. It's wonderful and cute, but has diminishing returns.
September. I think anyways...

I'm a new poster here, so forgive me if this has been covered, but has anyone seen Darrell Hammond? I loved him on "SNL" and was wondering how he does in Bee. Thanks!
I went to see the show last week and asked a stage hand who told me the show will run through at least the end if the year, but if business does not improve it will not run past that point. At this time the show has already had a respectible run. I can't believe how this show is so well loved by most people who see it. I really like the way the audience connects with the characters. A good case in point would be Leaf. Each and every time I have seen the show (SPOILER) when the bell dings on him, the audience always groans. (END SPOLIER) I will miss this show when it does close. My favorite songs are "The I love you song", and "Pandemonium".
The only thing I need to do now is catch the adult version. I just wish they did it more often. A friend of mine told me it was amazing.
It'll be nice if it ran through the holidays, but something tells me it's Labour Day weekend, a traditional closing weekend. I just can't imagine it making it through September and October without seriously diminishing returns.
I think it's had a healthy run, though.

I still need to get to see it, but I'd agree from what I've heard from friends that it's on it's downward descent.

I think it's hard to find replacements for a show that is so tailored to the talents of its original cast memebers. That show really made (relative) "stars" out of its original cast memebers. They should put them all through some sort of improve workshop.

Well, I can't help but thinking how perfect this show is for the theater it's housed in. I think it's got more than half a year left, at least, but I wouldn't be able to say if it would last an entire year. But I wish it all the best -- it offers such a diversity of starring parts, and deserves to stay!

unfortuntely true.. Its not like Im married to the brillliant OBC.. The tour cast was amazing as well. This group really isnt funny.
I dont think its the new cast that is making people not really want to see the show anymore- I mean, tourists never went to the show to see the cast, they didnt know who they were. If you know what I mean, it wasnt a show tourists saw just to see the cast, so its not like tourists are like "Oh, theres a new cast, the show wont be as good".
I dont know if that made sense, but I just think people dont really want to see the show anymore. The people who wanted to see SPELLING BEE have seen it, or...at least a lot of people that wanted to. Its just not a popular new show anymore.

Guys,It was at 8o% last week. It is still making money for all its producers.. Why do you think it's closing so soon? Other shows have been on life support and gone on and on.
It made its investment back early in the run. It is so cheap to keep open. I wouldn't prepare the obituary just yet.
As Dirty Rotten Guy said, I really don't think that the majority of the tourist crowd knows or cares that the OBC is no longer there. It's a cute, but somewhat niche show, and it's still doing fairly well.
And, I like the current cast.
