Oh, I wish I had known what the creative team looked like, or where they were sitting! The only person I would have recognized would have been Michael Arden, but I guess he wasn't there.
I forgot how beautiful Brandi's voice is. In the prologue she has a little part, and I just was like "wow, what a beautifully perfect voice." I wanted to hear her belt, but I guess it suited her character more to have a more classical sound.

I did the student rush line at the last second because plans to ge a ticket earlier fell through. But I must say that I was glad that I did because I hadn't done a rush line in such a long time that I forgot how fun it can be waiting there with other people. I got there around nine and the box office opened at 12. I was standing right in front of the back of the awning/marquee but towards the end the stage door line went to where the stage door was and when the box office opened they used three windows (one on the outside and the two inside) to make the line move faster. I was in the third row on the side only a row back from where I was friday night.
As for the show as soon as I heard the audience screaming and cheering when the title was projected onto the scrim I knew that it was going to be an amazing day at the theatre. Everyone was in their top form and everyone was just spot on amazing. They were really getting into it and the entire cast saved the best performance for last. Toro was just amazing and Out of Sight Out of Mind just blew the roof off the place. When Barbour sang I Can't Recall I just teared up knowing that this would be the last time I would be able to hear him sing such an amazing song ever aging. The same thing was true for Let Her Be A Child. To save time I will just say that everyone was just amazing. I will miss this show very much and I am glad that I came home when I did just in time to see this show.

"PS: Spotted in the audience...Joanna Gleason looking fabulous as always."
I thought that was her! She was sitting two rows in front of me and I only had one quick glimpse of her face. She was gone after intermission so I didn't get to see if it was really her.
I'm not going to write too much because everyone else has done such a great job of recapping the day. Besides, I actually only got home like an hour ago and have a bit of a headache from a bit too much drinking.
I got to talk to Jill as well as Barbara Russell and Ron Sharpe. We had great, funny conversations and they remembered me from here which was so great.
I'll write more tomorrow. I need to get to bed.

I too was at the final performance of, A Tale of Two Cities. It was my first time seeing the show. I agree with the comments about the stellar cast. It is a privilege to hear James Barbour sing in person. The voices were just spectacular. Unfortunately, I also agree with some of the negative criticism, too. I found the score often mediocre, trying hard to soar, but just not quite able to take off. I'm glad I saw, A Tale of Two Cities. I will remember it fondly, but I don't think the critics were as unkind as some people have suggested.
As for the final performance... when did whistling and screaming become acceptable at a Broadway performance. There was some guy sitting in the mezzanine on the far audience left side loudly whistling his approval after every song. He was just plain annoying. Please, give it a break.

Posted: 11/10/08 at 1:07pmScott Briefer, if you read the thread about how people whistle and cheer during the show. You would realize that a very common time for this is during the final show when the fans go see the show one last time.

Posted: 11/10/08 at 1:14pmIt said it was touring when it announced plans to close, but most shows say that. So take it with a grain of salt. Most of those plans fall through.

I was there for the closing, as well. Everyone on here has already addressed all of the major points of the closing show. The stage door certainly was crazy...but what a great way to say "goodbye" to the cast. Sadly though, there always have to be a few obnoxious people waiting that have to steal attention from the cast members and ruin other people's chance to meet the performers. That is my biggest stage door pet peeve...just let everyone have their chance!
And say what you will about Barbour, he is a class act. Not only amazingly talented but also so nice and gracious.

That is a big reason why I often hang at the very end of the line. Let them get to everyone else. I went down as far as I could without leaving the vicinity of the stage door

Yea this was really annoying me too... especially the people who had already seen the show multiple times, knew all the cast members, and then proceeded to scream out their names. They would scream the names and then distract the actors from the conversations they were currently having and then they would just walk away. And this problem was at the end of the line!

Posted: 11/10/08 at 4:21pmScott you must not have read the NY Times review because it was more then unkind! It was down right ugly and did not deserve it... and after reading it i will never trust his opinion on another show again.. it seemed like an agenda to me..
#39re: How was Tale Today?
Posted: 11/10/08 at 4:27pmCyCoSpAz2, I was at the end of the line and although some of the cast did remember me and gave me a warm greeting I just stood quietly until they came to me. I would never be one of those people who is yelling at the actors etc. They will come to you if you can just be patient and wait for them to come.

Posted: 11/10/08 at 4:30pmWinston, I said these people were screaming out names of the cast members and distracting them, not standing there quietly.

CyCo, was also at end of the line too...which is where some really obnoxious fans were waiting.
The friend I was with wanted a picture with James Barbour and some fans that were also at the end of the line would not leave him alone while she was trying to at least say "good job" to him and get a picture. I mean seriously, I get that some people need constant attention...but at least be a little respectful of others who have been patiently waiting.

Posted: 11/10/08 at 5:33pmConsidering that I had to catch an Amtrak train back to school and I was pressed for time, I left after I got Brandi's autograph and then hightailed it out of there onto the subway to make it in time to Penn Station. I didn't get to see all of the crazy fans on the end. I was there and I was pretty quite but there were some crazies there I will admit.

What?...is there some joke involved with this?...
Someone else mentioned that they saw James Barbour make a funny face at one point during the show. I saw the show Saturday night and he did the same thing...so I'm guessing it's a part of the show.

Correct me if I am wrong, but could the funny face have been after he said the "Oh! It's a scarf!!!" line?
I am pretty sure I am remember him doing something exceptionally funny and different after that line that was out of the norm.

Is that supposed to be funny?

What rocky past? Is he another one of those incredibly talented guys who got in trouble for breaking some laws or something?
SillySara - the scarf scene was where (to my knowledge) he made the face
#48re: How was Tale Today?
