And where was Lauren and the Irish kid and the Christian kid with dreadlocks and the rich girl who couldn't sing?
If Rachel can put Funny Girl on hold and return to Ohio, then all of these kids can take a day off from pushing coffee at Starbucks and make an appearance.

Posted: 10/11/13 at 7:04amReally, they don't mention how a young man who is a teenager dies all of a sudden. That's right, it does not matter which is so unbelieveable. A grown man takes Finn's letter man jacket home as a "piece" of Finn, that is just pathetic writing. After all the things Sue said about Finn and degraded him for years, she is now shedding tears at his death. She says she feels bad can't tell him that he would have been a good teacher. Once again, another shake your head moment in "Glee". The writers had a great opportunity to do a touching realistic tribute, unfortunately IMO they failed.

It was so horribly written I'm amazed Fox let it go on. Santana, who barely tolerated Finn was his one true love? A big part of Rachel & Finn's love was driving around singing a Dylan song. (Did either of them even have a car?) Sue really really really loved him.
I LOVED The fight over the Letterman's jacket (Did Finn wear that on the show?) Especially after Kurt is entrusted with the sacred relic and then gives it away to Santana- Right in front of Finn's Fiance Rachel, who seems to be like "Oh yeah, probably."
IT was ghastly.

I thought it was actually a rather lovely episode. Like Finn himself, it was earnest, sweet, and certainly flawed. The strongest scene for me was that of Burt, Carole, and Kurt mourning in Finn's room- it was heartbreaking. The jacket thing was sweet, although I did have a slight problem with the ending of it (more on that in a moment), but completely understandable.
What I thought was most important and rang most true was how every character had a different way of grieving. When someone dies- especially someone so young- everyone deals with it differently. Some get angry and lash out, because anger is close to grief but feels stronger. Some become selfish because it hurts too much to think of the lost loved one. Some occupy themselves by being strong for others, until they just can't anymore. And some grieve like we "expect", with the tears and the meltdowns. Every single reaction felt genuine to me. If you are fortunate enough to have never experienced or seen that in real life, then consider yourself blessed. The year after we graduated high school, a boy from my class died. I didn't know him well, so all I experienced was that odd feeling of someone my age just being gone. But I knew many of his good friends and saw them grieve, and it was not unlike this.
At the end of things, just like within the show itself, a talented young man is gone before his time. RIP Cory Monteith.

It was a typical episode of Glee. Mostly cringe-worthy with a few moments that actually worked.
The scene with Finn's mother was shockingly well-written and incredibly well acted by Romy Rosemont.
Then you had the locker room scene with Mark Salling and the coach which sounded like a fourth grader wrote it. It was extraordinarily embarrassing.
The whole thing with Santana and the jacket didn't make any sense given their past "friendship" (?)
Jane Lynch was fantastic. She managed to pull off those horrible "comic relief" jokes and then do a stellar job in the scene explaining her own grief (trite and random as it was).
As much as I dislike her as an actress, I thought Lea Michele did a pretty spectacular job. Even with the cliche-ridden dialogue, she pulled it off with a heart-breaking honesty that was incredibly sad.

Yes. That was the ONLY thing that rang true. Maybe they found a grown up person to write it before handing the script back to the monkeys in cages.
And yes, everyone grieves differently. But MY GOD, this show says young people should be in a constant state of mourning for, what was it, over a month? I've lost people before and yeah, everyone grieves differently but your life has to go on. Every single one of these people just seemed to have no reason to live anymore and seemed on the brink of suicide. It was emotional porn (and not even good porn), but maybe that's exactly what the tweens need to get over an actor they never met.
And rest assured that next week, everyone will be happy and laughing again (and maybe Rachel will sing a FUNNY GIRL song or two because it's been over a week and they can't let the world forget that Lea Michele still REALLY wants to actually play that part).
Because when it's all said and done, this is still a Ryan Murphy show. And that means that character development and consistency are an afterthought and the least important thing you add to a script.

This is the best was to describe the show as a whole IMO. They take something, tie it to tree, and beat it until it is dead. There's nothing subtle, beautiful, or tactful about how they handle any of the issues. This whole thing with Finn's death is making it even more apparent than it already was. Show them grieving and barely able to function, but then don't even say HOW he died? That's just bad writing.

Excellent point. IMO - Most people do not get that emotional a month after somebody has died. If Mr. Shuster was going to break down you would think he might have done it after returning home from the funeral.

I also respect the decision to not elaborate on Finn's death. I appreciate what Kurt said about the way he died being such a small part of Finn (or something to that effect) and from personal experience, totally agree.
