Dose anyone else find it in poor taste to totally dis a show anonymously on a message board and then say what a fabulous time you had at the opening party? I think it is very tacky. Kind of like in school when the total bitch that you can’t stand and have made known to everybody but her just what you think of her invites you to her Birthday party and you “wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Whatever happened to class?

Now Sueleen, we all have lapses in judgment. Just because the show wasn't liked doesn't mean that an open bar should be missed. Would you have us all live like monks?
DGrant, Goddess forbid we should all live as "Monks", but you have to admit that even for the most outrageous sociopath this is pretty tacky.

OK, you're right. All outrageous sociopathic monks should be strapped until they howl with pain.
Well that may be a bit much, maybe they should be strapped to chair and be forced to watch the DVD of Cats while being forcefed some awful canned meat.
sueleen, my uncle is a trappist monk and i just have to say that your attack on monks is both offensive and uncalled for and insensitive. i am appalled that you would lump all monks into one class when it's obvious to even the most casual of observers that it takes all kinds to maake of the glorious panorama that is a monestary. i demand an apology be issued immediately at some point in the next few days if not sooner.
I think it is terrible that monks would "trap" anything. All creatures are God's creatures and we should just live and let live. I myself am a cat person.

I've never been invited to an opening night party, but I don't think I could attend one for a show I despised. Is there some German word for the opposite of Schaudenfreude? The shameful depression you feel when someone you loathe succeeds? Cause that's how I would have felt loading those cases of Spam into my cab as everyone celebrated their success.
I'm sensing some deeper message somewhere in these posts...

Joe - you should have just left them in the hall instead of lugging them all over the place.
i'm waiting.
don't make me try out my wife's feline fricassee recipe.

Well Joe, I don't know if they are German words but "jealousy," "envy" and "bitterness" come to mind.

Papa - not that I'm an expert, but I understand there are better ways to eat *cat*.
Now don't go popping pussies into pies...you might just get a macavity.
Nice to see you deary, oops I beg your pardon...
Sueleen is talking about me - surprise surprise.
If you claim that I despised the show, perhaps you should revisit my review of SPAMALOT and then reconsider this pointless thread. This post is pretty damn tacky itself. I never dissed the show - so please - re-read my review. You'll find that this thread has absolutely NO relevance.
Even if I did hate the show, (which I didn't,) people who dislike shows go to the parties all the time if they're invited. I'm not a fan of BOMBAY DREAMS, BROOKLYN, NEVER GONNA DANCE, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, or THE BOY FROM OZ, and I still went. That's not tacky - I have a lot of friends there. If people only went to parties based on whether they liked the show or not, some parties would be pretty damn empty.
So again - stop concerning yourself with what I do.
Well knock me over with a feather. I did some searching and found that you did not HATE the show. In fact you had wonderful things to say about Ramirez:
I agree that Ramirez is absolutely hysterical and PERFECT for the role - physically and vocally. She will absolutely get a Tony nomination and she'll probably win as well.
However you did describe the show as:
boring
or
over-hyped
or
mis-guided
or
bland
And seemed to take glee in slamming the good reviews:
I'm not surprised that it's a rave. But I could not disagree more.
I could not disagree more with her review. MEaning, I disagree with it to the fullest possible extent.
(But in fact you could agree with some of it.)
Or jumping on the ship with those who did not care for it:
I very much agree with those reviews.
So it seems you can’t really decide one way or the other.
As for your comment that if people avoided parties because they did not like a show that there would be noone at the parties…well, sycophants abound in the theatre and people wonder why people accuse actors of being shallow and kiss-asses. I hope you made some great contacts at the party. And don’t choke on your canned meat.
I don't understand why you're so concerned with what I do with my time, or what parties I go to. The only time you get on my I went to a party. This is the first time I mentioned anything since you crucified me (for no reason) after DEMOCRACY. I don't go to parties to get "contacts," as you seem to think, I go to hang out with friends and have a good time.
Why do you enjoy analyzing my reviews of SPAMALOT? Really, why are you so concerned?! It blows my mind. I enjoyed the show - I thought there were some fantastic aspects, and some that were just mediocre. Nevertheless, I'm a HUGE Monty Python fan and couldn't NOT go to the party.
I am not a suck up OR a kiss ass, but if you want to believe that that's the only reason I went to the party, then go ahead - you obviously find some solace in ripping my decisions apart.
I love you Suleen! And actors will go anywhere for free drinks and food and they'll smile at you and turn around and bury you the moment they're 3 feet away again.
Surely not ALL actors, Al!
Munks, party all night, rip your nose apart sleep with all of Manhattan for all I care. I just took umbrage in the fact that in the same thread you talk about how you "could not agree more" with the negative reviews of a show you have to hurry to get dressed to get to the cast party. And that you left with party favors that you didn't even want. If you can sleep with yourself, fine, I am just saying thank god I don't have to.
And RobbieJ, no, not ALL actors, I am sure Chennowith is a real sweetie.
My love for you grows Suleen, with each and every brilliant post you type.
This sounds like some people might be a little jealous because they don't get invited to parties - that's all I can think of.
Suleen: If you were invited to a party you had friends at, would you not go?
