...and I have to put myself in the category of those who loved it. The song that she sang on the Tony's was did not affect me much when I watched it on television, but in the theater, it blew me away. Just to see her character reflect on what her life had become and to explode with all that emotion was so great. I wish they had shown something else on the Tony's though because that song out of context does not work so well. There were so many numbers that featured the Radio and Washing Machine that maybe could have pulled in a few more audience members and kept the show running a bit longer. I am so glad I saw it because of Pinkins' performance. Not to mention Chuck Cooper and Anika Noni Rose. I just thought it was great theater and I wanted to share...

Glad you enjoyed the show! I wish I could have seen it. I was hoping to catch it this December but that doesn't look like it's going to happen.
Join the club, Sherman !!!! Glad you enjoyed it !!!
I know!! I am so glad I saw it. So many times I let these kind of shows pass by and then it closes and it's gone forever. Parade, for instance. Assassins, etc...
I think you are now NuggetMonkey's new best friend.
Hurrah!!! I am someone's friend! I weep with happiness because no one knows me here. Nuggetmonkey? Call me. Let's do lunch.

Caroline or Change on tkts?
Yes, I wish they hadn't shown Lot's Wife on the Tonys as well. I saw the show this past Wednesday and I know the song would have had a lot more of an effect had I not already seen it out of context. Of course it was much better in the context of the show, but because I had seen it already, it was a little ruined for me.
I was scared I would feel that way too about the number, but it was still great. I was crying through the whole thing. (god, so gay am I). I got my tickets on TDF which I finally joined. They were center orchestra for $29 each. What a deal!
I am pretty certain that it is Wicked.... has been on TDF for weeks. :))
I got mine at Theatermania for $33.00 - 4th row center aisle. I wish I could be a member of TDF though!

how do you become a member of TDF? That is one great deal!
you have to be a student, teacher or actor in the union to join. go to TDF.org for the details to see if you qualify.
Saw Caroline, or Change for the first time today as well and really liked it!
Seeing Tonya do 'Lot's Wife' at the Tonys made me really want to see the show and I was not disappointed. :) Her performance is just mind-blowing (expect for the slap she gives her daughter! She didn't even touch her face, ha!), the whole cast was wonderful.

Whoa, sorry all. I have been out, but just got home to this wonderful thread. WHAT A TOPIC: falling in love with CAROLINE!
Aghhhhhhh
Right on, shermanslave. FRIENDS WE ARE!!! Wheee.
Let's make a ring.
Aghhh, CAROLINE is so amazing.
the best show in a long long long while.
oh and about the slap. the slap is better if you sit on the left side of the theatre, where you can't see the gap of air between
HAND
and
FACE.
:)

and I was on the left side of the theater which must be why I only saw perfection.
Oh Sherman! Where ever you sit (or stand) is perfection!
I however was asleep and missed the slap entirely. (or is that no "e" entirly?)

Its such a great show. Im so sad its closing.
Shermanslave,
What day of the week did you go and what Row were you in from TDF.
When I went on a Sat. Mat. I was in Row R pretty far to the left, so Im wondering what day you got those good seats.. Im going again on Wed night through TDF so hopefully the seats will be good :)
Glad you loved the show. I think it was the best show of last season.
my tdf tix were for a Thursday night and we were in the last row of the orchestra in the side section but on the aisle closer to the center.
I agree....Caroline is my favorite of the past season. I have mentioned here before that Ms. Pinkins was not in great voice at the Tony's because she was under the weather. My understanding is that she did not want to do the song but was talked into it also because it was already slated to be performed. Can't remember where I read that, but it was the day after the awards. In the theatre, "Lot's Wife" stands out as one of the most powerful songs I have seen performed on the B'way stage. Her voice and the song's arrangement were powerful.
I saw the matinee yesterday and it was great. I would've enjoyed it more if I wasn't dying from lack of sleep, but I LOVED Anika Noni Rose...if I could just steal her voice, life would be grand! The two little boys who played Caroline's sons were AWESOME! They had more stage presence than most adults I've seen onstage.
The very thought of this show closing before having any commercial success truly saddens me.
Yes. It is a brilliant musical. It is a great loss
