I, for one, LOVE IT! I saw it in L.A. and was dying for a recording the moment I left the theater. Sure--the songs leave a bit to be desired, but it was an incredible cast and the performances are amazing.
To be honest, I don't love it. I didn't love the show, but the music sung by the voices of the three women was definitely its best feature. I don't think Fly Into the Future sounds that great (I am partial to Megan Hilty's version), nor does The Same Old Music, which was my favorite song in the show. Anneliese sounds great on her songs though.
I bought "Cute Boys With Short Haircuts" off Itunes and I've listened to it continuously. Such a great, catchy song! I honestly don't really remember any of the other songs.
I LOVED "CBWSH"! Out of the 3 solos, it seems that that's the only track that remained as powerful on the record than it did live. "Fly Into the Future" was a lot more powerful live than it sounds on the CD. I don't know why they had Lauren hold back. The same goes for "The Same Old Music", originally I thought that was the big showstopper live.
I never saw the show, but I've listened to this top to bottom 4 times; however, I did listen to "Cute Boys.." on repeat for a long time. I really enjoyed this album and I enjoy it even more with each listen. Recorded very beautifully and all 3 women sound fantastic!
The Same Old Music was my favorite number in the show, and I thought Sarah Stiles did an amazing job with it on stage. On the CD, though, it's somewhat of a letdown. And yes, Cute Boys with Short Haircuts is superb on the CD.
I know what I'm going to get with my $15 iTunes gift card!
"There's nothing good on. The media hates Christmas. The media loves vampires, though. Maybe they will show a Twilight Christmas." -Danmeg's 10 year old son.
"Cute Boys" is the best thing about this score. It was also the only musical moment in the actual show that got my attention which is a real shame because I adore Lauren Kennedy and couldn't wait to see her in a new musical. The show itself was ridiculous and boring and all in all just really bad with a mediocre score to accompany it. I hope all three of these girls finds something more suited to their talents very soon.
