I started following this site around 2004. What kept me coming back then were the stupendous, intellectually pure and insightful posts by Margo Channing. There are so many fine people with sharp intellect on this site but there has never anyone like him. Margo could dissect any production as if he was in the mind of the producers and writers. He lived theater as if grease paint flowed in his veins. At the time, we all looked forward to his posts and marveled at his knowledge.
Even today, years later, I sometimes wonder what Margo would say at any particular time. And I'm so sorry that most of the people on the board today, never had a chance to experience a discussion where Margo was involved. When he passed, I felt I had lost a member of my family.
At one point, I too believed that Margo went to that theatre stage in the sky. But.......I remember a saying: "rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated."
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
