I thought this would be a good idea to post questions you have always been curious about or pondered the answer and see if anyone else can answer them. I'll start.
I love MJW but does anyone else know who else was up for the original Tracy?

Why did they want Kristin Chenowith so much for Glinda?
She to this day is still taking loads from the producers of Wicked, they could have found someone just as good, if not better to originate the role.

Posted: 1/18/09 at 9:18pmMy question!: Did Hal Prince & Andrew Lloyd Webber specifically start EVITA with her death so it would compare to "SUNSET BLVD.," in the sense that Joe is dead at the beginning? I believe they were both "contemplating" the idea from the start of EVITA onward for the next project...hmmmmm! Just something I've always connected perhaps.

"Did Hal Prince & Andrew Lloyd Webber specifically start EVITA with her death so it would compare to "SUNSET BLVD.," in the sense that Joe is dead at the beginning?"
Hal Prince wasn't involved with the original concept of 'Evita.' Rice and Lloyd Webber had already structured the show (and recorded it) long before Prince signed on to direct the initial stage production.

Posted: 1/18/09 at 10:07pmBy loads I meant, to this day Kristin gets I believe it is 5% or the profit of each production world wide.

I still don't get what you are trying to say... so, she gets 5%, is that a good or bad thing in your opinion? And why?
You didn't use quite enough words to get your point across.

Oh didn't realize that! Suppose it is just a coincidence or Lloyd Webber thought of it

Posted: 1/18/09 at 10:19pmApparently Kristin gets a percentage of each production's gross each week.

Well there is something I've been wondering for a while, so I might as well post it in this thread.
Almost every single show that has ever been video taped, makes weird little changes or edits. For instance, in Kiss Me Kate, they tried to make it more "film-like" and showed clips of the empty audience in the beginning, skipped some parts, and clearly edited from scene to scene. Also, for Oklahoma they set up the whole set on a soundstage and made all sort of weird edits.
Also, in the recent Cyrano filming, they would fade into the scenes that had already started.
I guess my question is: Why can't they just film the shows exactly like they are live?
This is just something that has bothered me for a while.

Posted: 1/18/09 at 10:31pmIt's not so much that I think it's bad, it's just I wasn't the biggest fan of her Glinda and don't see why the producers wanted her so badly for the role if it means she's taking money from them on a weekly basis for as long as the show runs.

Posted: 1/18/09 at 10:32pmI to know why that is. I never have heard of an performer getting a precentage of a shows grosses for other productions of the same show once they had left. And, if Kristin does in fact get that then why doesn't Menzel who originated the role of Elphaba. Or if we are going back to the readings of Wicked why doesn't Block who originated the role of Elphaba in the reading.

Posted: 1/18/09 at 10:34pmThat's exactly my problem with it! Kirstin fit it into her contract when she signed on, it's one of the perks she got because of how much the casting people and producers wanted her for the role. So, I wanna know why they wanted her so much.

Posted: 1/18/09 at 10:43pmI have heard of stars in shows getting some extras that others in the cast don't get. Largest dressing room, a car waiting for them after the show to take them home etc. But, I have never heard of anyone getting it put into their contract that they get a precentage of the profits of the show. I will agree with tag that it its most likely a rumor and I would have to venture that it is a false one at that.
#21re: I've always wondered...
Posted: 1/18/09 at 10:48pmYeah, if Kristin was making 5% of the profits from Wicked, she'd be getting over $50,000 a week off the Broadway production.
#22re: I've always wondered...
Posted: 1/18/09 at 10:52pmUmm the broadway production isn't making a million dollars profit every week. Those are GROSS TICKET SALES, not profits.

Not to mention the original film version of Sunset Boulevard starts with Joe's death as well.

So, I wanna know why they wanted her so much.
Because they thought she was perfect for the role? I don't understand what other kind of answer you're looking for. Were you thinking that someone's going to come out of secrecy and say she has blackmail on the producers or something?
And also, it's a rumor.
