You know Jenna Elfman at one point was VERY close to playing Charity?
But the creative team and the Weisslers decided she wasn't the right choice.

There you are!
I thought it interesting they were comparing this to NINE.
re: IMdB - Fire Christina - Dharma as Charity#4
Posted: 12/12/05 at 7:36pmYep. Jenna Elfman is one in a long list of actresses slated to play Charity and then never did.
re: IMdB - Fire Christina - Dharma as Charity#5
Posted: 12/12/05 at 7:37pmWell they need a Charity by the end of the week, or the show is a goner.

Posted: 12/12/05 at 7:38pmThese knuckleheads also think that Jenna Elfman would be a good Sally Bowles.

Posted: 12/12/05 at 8:20pmas i recall jenna was suppose to go into the jane role in NINE but was fired...scuse me i mean let go.

Posted: 12/12/05 at 8:21pmZelda - in that link I posted, someone mention she was "let go"
re: IMdB - Fire Christina - Dharma as Charity#9
Posted: 12/12/05 at 8:22pmI dunno if Jenna can sing, but Christina totally reminded me of her as Charity!!
re: IMdB - Fire Christina - Dharma as Charity#10
Posted: 12/12/05 at 8:25pmI believe it was mentioned on here that Jenna can't sing. At all. Not even a little bit.
re: IMdB - Fire Christina - Dharma as Charity#11
Posted: 12/12/05 at 8:30pmChristina lost me when she put her downstage arm up to hold the hat on the TONYS as she kicked away, That was either a BAD Choreographer or a BAD Dancer.
re: IMdB - Fire Christina - Dharma as Charity#12
Posted: 12/12/05 at 8:33pmChristina said she was scared as hell for the Tony performance. She is tons better in the theatre. Her dancing in the theatre is quite impressive, she trained in dance for over 20 years, she can obviously dance. Her singing has gotten MUCH stronger. And her acting is absolutely perfect.
re: IMdB - Fire Christina - Dharma as Charity#13
Posted: 12/12/05 at 8:36pmI'd love to see her do it, just once, to see if she could pull it off.

Posted: 12/12/05 at 8:40pmIt is still just a big downer to have someone like that revive a role that Verdon created. "Nobody's got no class".
re: IMdB - Fire Christina - Dharma as Charity#15
Posted: 12/12/05 at 8:45pmActually, I remember an announcement at the time that Jenna Elfman would go into Nine at a later date, after further preparation. She's probably just about ready around now...

re: IMdB - Fire Christina - Dharma as Charity#17
Posted: 12/12/05 at 9:47pmI would like to see someone like Kristin Bell take over the role. She's young still but I think she's great.
re: IMdB - Fire Christina - Dharma as Charity#18
Posted: 12/12/05 at 10:01pmSmaxie's right. The producers announced that Jenna Elfman had simply "delayed" her opening in Nine. Then it was never mentioned again!

Posted: 12/13/05 at 6:36amElfman was the first in the long line of "name" actresses originally proposed for Charity (Marisa Tomei, Jane Krakowski, and-eventually-Christina). I believe she might have even done a workshop of it.

Posted: 12/13/05 at 10:30amElfman was not first, tomei was, then elfman, then krakowski. and ofcourse before tomei was the (unrelated) revival starring paula abdul.

Actually I believe Melissa Errico Fan is right. In terms of the time line for this revival(let's try to forget Paula's intentions) Elfman was first. I remember reading about her getting vocal coaching from Cy Coleman personally.(I guess he saw a Charity in her) She must not have been progressing, because it sort of just never happened. Tomei came next, was announced for a workshop and a mini tour. She was used in the advertising for some of the out of town houses, and left before the workshop. She was then replaced by Krakowski. You know the rest.

question: why wouldn't Jane Krakowskie play Charity. She would be wonderful, but I heard that she can't or something. Why?
