“Ink,” a new British play about the rise of Rupert Murdoch, will have its American premiere on Broadway next spring.
The play, which was a hit in London last year, is about an early chapter in Mr. Murdoch’s rise to moguldom — his takeover and tabloid transformation of The Sun, a British newspaper, starting in 1969.
“Ink” was written by James Graham, a Briton The Financial Times called “one of the country’s finest and funniest playwrights.” His one previous Broadway outing, as the book writer for the Harvey Weinstein-helmed musical “Finding Neverland,” was a flop, but beyond Broadway he has won acclaim for his politically charged dramas, including “Privacy,” which transferred from London to the Public Theater in New York.
Reviewing “Ink” in London, Ben Brantley of The New York Times called the play “both an entertaining epitaph for a lost age and a chilling prophecy of days to come.”

Interesting that this is going to the Friedman.
How is super villainess Wendi Deng not a character in this play?
Huh. Well I did NOT hear very good things about this from people who saw it in London. But I love Rupert Goold, and hopefully Bertie Carvel will transfer with it.
I feel like we try these british import plays speaking about the culture of capitalism and corruption (See: Enron, American Psycho) once every couple years, and they never strike a chord with american audiences.

I saw it in London and was absolutely rivoted. Bertie gives an incredible performance and the entire play is VERY relevant in this era of "fake news" and the modern start of "who cares if it's true, we are selling the most papers" times we live in. There was a great line in it that's stayed with me-- "When the people create their own content then they will be happy."
I hope Bertie Carvel transfers with the show. He’s brilliant in it, and deservingly won the Olivier recently.
Kind of surprising that this is moving the same year as The Ferryman, since Ink was kind of overshadowed by The Ferryman in London.
An embarrassment of riches for new plays so far:

Perhaps like "Junk" they don't seem very timely. I think there's something risky about dealing with the immediacy of the present moment that theater rarely tackles.
Bertie Carvel!

Considering he on the Olivier for it, he very well should be, it'd be a sin not to artistically as well as politically. I hardly say "robbed" in terms of awards, but I still say he was robbed of a Tony for Miss Trunchbull.
EDIT-I'm an idiot and didn't see this was a thread from earlier this year...but I stand by everything anyway.
