Yes, I'd say it's not like her career faltered at all since Frozen.
Though it's just a pilot, now it makes sense for Menzel to move to Cali (well, for now... I'm still hoping for a play).

But I haven't actually followed television since the '90s. Doesn't a "pilot" still have to be picked up for future seasons or something? I mean, this could turn out to just be a single episode. I read the Deadline article but I don't get "The project, currently eyed as single-camera, is expected to be taken out in the summer" (what does "taken out" mean?).

I gotta give it to Idina's manager! Her team is really making the most out of the Frozen/Let it Go buzz.
Her Broadway show was a hit, and the only reason it's closing it's because no one else can carry it like Idina, box-office wise.
Her concert at RCMH was a success, she's performing everywhere (Oscars, X-Factor, talk-shows...)
She's about to start her world tour
And now this...
When was the last time we had a true Broadway star like this?

Good for her! Though it's always my hope to continue seeing her on Broadway this is a cool project and great for her career.
Idina has also been doing tons of pre-Super Bowl publicity and, IMHO, is hitting it out of the park. Her interviewers have run the gamut from the official press conference to Access Hollywood to ESPN radio hosts and she's been natural and relaxed.
Since a lot of the questions are the same, she's certainly sticking to some lines that I'm sure were sussed out with her publicist and are good sound bites. However, in the course of banter and conversation she's been quick, funny and most-importantly, likable. She's been a great ambassador for Broadway.

There was one where she directly called out her publicist after saying something hilariously awkward... "Is it okay if I (say this)?" (Honey, they got it on tape. It won't be cut. LOL!) Definitely comedy material, that.

And yes - parents who bring kids to her concerts sometimes get a shock. Refreshingly, however, a lot of parents actually ask via social media if her shows are OK for kids. I usually say it's up to the parent, but she does curse a lot and it's not a concert designed for children.

That's true. We may never see this materialize. I was watching Stark Sands Chatterbox episode, and in it he talked about a pilot he did for HBO with Patti LuPone (she played his mother). He said it was essentially what Smash ended up being (except darker). I'd give anything to see that un-produced pilot.

Not to mention her holiday album peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200 and sold just under 400k copies. I remember buying her first album when it was still out of print and then when I Stand came out, I thought it was a big deal for it to debut at 58 on the Billboard 200. Her career has come so far since. I couldn't be happier for her.

I, too, hope the Frozen parents understand that her shows might not be for kids ... just like If/Then is not for kids. She's definitely made it clear in several interviews lately that she likes to keep her concerts spontaneous which includes telling "grown up" stories and using language that isn't kid friendly at her shows.
I certainly haven't heard every interview this week, but I think she's coming across as a real person and not a robot ... or an ice princess.

I feel butter sweet about this. I am so happy for her continued success but am sad that this show will take her to California and away from Broadway. Oh well, nothing is forever.
Her interviews this week have been incredible. She's been hilarious and honest and she seems SO happy-- she even admitted she kinda has a boyfriend so good riddance Mr. Diggs.
Back to the show, interesting that it doesn't say which network is producing it. I'm guessing abc since that's the net Ellen's talk show is on?

Yes, I actually rewound when I heard, just to make sure I heard it right! Various sound bites include MILF ambition, bedroom activities, choking on snot, the weight of people's balls, nipples, and whatever the heck else.

As for this pilot succeeding, with her current cross-over name recognition and existing fan base, I think there's a decent chance it'll be picked up, also given that it's a regular comedy and not a musical-show like the aforementioned pre-Smash thing. But we'll see. I haven't heard of the writer's other credit.

gleek-- I heard about that pilot! I think Norbert Leo Butz was also involved (and if he was, I believe he once mentioned filming a scene where cocaine was done off a "Wicked" script. I would also LOVE to see said pilot.
