""Check out the 06 London cast recording to hear her."
That recording is absolutely DREADFUL. I don't even know what I did with it. "
Agreed. Not a pretty recording...
And who cares if Olivo is "too dark"...we have Alice in Wonderland going Latina anyway! They could just change around the story and add in some extra details about why she's so dark.
(Not serious.)

Mandy Gonzolez, no doubt.

Philly, Alice is a fictional character. Eva Peron is a real person.
"Juliana Ashley Hansen or an unknown ensemble girl"
I think that's redundant.
I see Olivo has become the new Benanti, people want them in every role no matter how wrong they might be.
And actually Alice is based on a real little girl.
Thankyou Curtain...she's based off the Granddaughter or daughter of the original story writer, if I'm correct.
Not that this needs to start into a whole nother Wonderland debate thread.

Yeah, but it's a cartoon/book character. Eva is, once again, real.
...so was the Alice that was used as the basis for the charcter?
Who cares...the only important thing to this thread is EVITA should get revived soon! But it won't .. 2 perfect lead-ups didn't make it to Broadway.
I'd still LOVE to see Toro & Esparza do it again!
I'm just imagining Olivo in a beautiful blonde wig, and it's working.

What about Josefina Scaglione? I'm not sure if she can belt, but if she can...
Mandy Gonzalez would be good, too.
I've love Cheyenne Jackson as Che.
Julia Murney
Gonzalez is in no way ready to carry a show. She just seemed a little awkward to me onstage in ITH.
Karen Olivo is absolutely beautiful, but a blonde she ain't. I think that a blonde wig would not suit her skin tone at all.

Leslie Kritzer was a phenomenal Eva some years ago at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse. I would love to hear her sing it now with even more experience and maturity behind her voice and acting.
Byron, I would love to have seen that. I woulnd't have pictured her as Eva ("Patti LuPone at Les Mouches" notwithstanding) but she's a great talent.

She was amazing (I was the ASM at MGR that season and am so thankful that I got to hear her sing that for three weeks). Sadly I have lost the pictures from that show, the originals at who knows what point, and the scans when my previous laptop died a couple years ago.
Rachel York would get my vote.

SERIOUSLY. If they revive this without her, I'm picketing.
Olivo doesn't even look the part.
If we don't get a Spanish Rosie, why would we need a Spanish Eva?
My vote goes like Alice Ripley.
Mandy Gonzalez as Eva Peron....wouldn't that require her to act and sing at the same time? For like, the entire show? She couldn't even do that in ITH. Beautiful voice, beautiful face. Not good for Eva.

I'm with Madbrian. Go listen to Rachel York's concert version of Don't Cry for Me Argentina on her website. Whew.
And she's got that "majestic" kind of look to really command the stage.
Argentina
I'd prefer a younger, unknown actress. I think Olivo can sing the role, but I just don't find her to be the best choice for the role.
Julia Murney
Leslie Kritzer
Alice Ripley all the way!!!
