If Evita came back to Broadway (which it probably is) who would you cast?

Jordan Catalano, your username is pretty Sasha Fierce in and of itself. My So-Called Life for the win.
I picture "Just Say No" as sort of a sensual Fosse number, personally.

"Um, Orfeh IS too old. She's 42. She couldn't possibly be convincing in the first act of Evita where Eva goes from 15-26. "
Orfeh is not 42. Don't believe everything you read on the internet. I can tell you with absolute certainty the woman is in her 30s.

I saw Julia Murney in Evita. I like Julia Murney. I would give her an overall positive review. But she definitely cannot sing the score. A New Argentina was woefully bad, and there were a few sore spots peppered throughout the rest of the score. The highest portions of the score did not fit comfortably in her range.

Doesn't matter. It's enough that she looks 42.

She's a bombshell, and a dynamic stage presence. And it's called suspension of disbelief.
She'd ****ing own it.

Raul Esparza for Che.
I love Karen Olivo, but I don't know if she could handle the score vocally. Wasn't she out all the time during In The Heights? The night I saw it, her voice cracked terribly during It Won't Be Long Now. Evita is a tough score to sing.
I am for Rachel York too.

Posted: 7/25/09 at 6:58pmWill Swenson for Che sounds like a terrific idea. Raul Esparza for Che does not.

Posted: 7/25/09 at 7:01pmRaúl has already played Ché. I saw him 10 years ago when he and Natalie Toro headlined the national tour, and he was quite good. In fact, he got the best reception of the night.

I think with some work she could. She needs to just take care of her voice a little more.

I haven't posted on this board in so long I forgot my password. The ugliness re: Orfeh unbelievably still goes on and it's always the same people saying the same crap which just goes to show you how important she still is to some. I made a promise to myself to never get involved again, I've made good on my word but this is a topic worth coming out of board retirement for and one I have always been very vocal about, Orfeh=Evita.
I don't care if she's 50 and Evita comes back to Bway, she's perfect for the role and is one of the only singers I know that could handle the vocal demands of it. As for however old anyone is, are we forgetting that alot of the early replacements for Elphaba and Glinda were all pushing 40 at the time? Are we forgetting how old Idina/Kristen were to begin with? At least Eva Peron is not a high schooler. Are we forgetting that "fresh off the bus" Sherry Christian was portrayed by Amy Spanger who's pushing 40? Those are just a tiny handful of examples.
If you despise Orfeh, that's fine but don't make up bullsh*t reasons for why she's not right for something. Just tell the truth and say it's because you can't stand the thought of seeing her in a show you'd probably want to see. Just because she's been a victim of online bullying and vandalism and just because there are a handful of very disturbed people campaigning to make her look bad at every turn, doesn't make any of it true. The people who despise her would find flaw with her even if she cured cancer.

I adore Alice Ripley, but as Eva...well, no.
My vote would go to Julia Murney.

If people think Karen Olivo is "too dark" for the role. Then I think Natalie Toro would be too.

Orfeh is 42
Stephanie Block? You do know the role requires acting chops and charisma right?
Am I horrible for liking the Christina Aguilera idea?

If you're going for stunt casting, you could do a LOT worse than Aguilera. I have no idea about her acting abilities but of the whole crop off 90's Pop-Tarts, she's the only one whos grown vocally and has has proved she has one of the most powerful voices in music today. I'd love to see it.
But I still hold that Lauren Kennedy FINALLY needs a Broadway show like this to truly make her one of Broadways leading ladies.

I stand by my choices.
Aguilera is the only celeb that can sing it and look the part.
I've never seen Espinosa live, but she can certainly knock the vocals out of the park.
Murney and York need no explanation- they would be fantastic, if a bit old.
Listen to Kritzer's Gesthemane.
Gonzales had plenty of personality in DotV.
Block had plenty of charisma in TBFO and really embodied her character in 9 to 5.
Spanger would sing, act, and dance the role perfectly- just not 8 times a week.

Block has a fantastic voice, but that's about it. She couldn't be more wrong for Evita.
Murney already played it, and apparently it wasn't great.
Eden has yet to prove she has the acting skills for it. Her friend, Karen Olivo is a stronger actress and singer.
