I doubt she could sing the score, but I would LOVE to see Natalie Cortez get a crack at Eva.

I guess we'll agree to disagree. I'll admit the audios from when Murney played Eva are disappointing, but her "Buenos Aires" with Seth Rudetsky is the best I've ever heard.

ruprecht, not everyone giving their opinion on Orfeh has some sort of vendetta against her. I've certainly never become embroiled in any Orfeh related debates.
Just because she's been a victim of online bullying and vandalism and just because there are a handful of very disturbed people campaigning to make her look bad at every turn
This? Sounds like paranoid delusional BS to me. But I tend to be skeptical of Broadway stars or their fans crying about "online bullying" or "disturbed people". My firsthand experience with that certainly paints the defensive fans and the actor in question in a much crazier light than the so called haters. I could be wrong, though. I haven't followed the Orfeh wank.

Her Buenos Aires is great. I wish that a few brilliant numbers and her fantastic acting would be enough to carry her through the role, but I have to be objective and say that it wasn't. I know why fans of Julia Murney would want to see her in the role. I certainly did, and I certainly didn't regret it at all. But for a full scale Broadway revival I really don't think she'd be appropriately cast.
Julia Murney's Eva was extremely disappointing, all vocals no acting.
Eden Espinosa wouldn't know good acting if it slapped her in the face.
I believe Ripley has played the role regionally and really I imagine she was brilliant in the part, I love her voice, would love to see her tackle Eva, but think she's probably too old for the part now.
I don't care if Karen Olivo does not "look" the part. Really, does that matter? Are you going to see EVITA to get a history lesson? No. Hey, guess what? Eva Peron didn't sing non-stop or tangoed with Che Guevara, etc etc. It's a musical! I think Olivo would be great acting-wise but doubt she could sing the score 6 times a week. Would love to see her do it either way though.
I think Eden Espinosa might do a great job, but she also might be a little saccharine/over the top. If she did it I'd still buy a ticket, though.
Feb. 28 - Looped, Feb. 28 - Next to Normal, March 4 - Hair, March 11 - A Little Night Music, March 24 - Time Stands Still, April 6 - La Cage Aux Folles, April 10 - Anyone Can Whistle (City Center), April 10 - Looped, May 9 - Enron, May 15 - A Little Night Music, May 15 - A Behanding In Spokane, May 30 - A Behanding In Spokane, May 30 - A Little Night Music, June 20 - A Little Night Music, June 23 - Red, June 23 - Sondheim on Sondheim, July 13 - A Little Night Music, July 18 - The Grand Manner (Lincoln Center)
My concern with Espinosa would be her acting. I don't think she's proven herself as an actress yet. That's not to say she can't act, we just haven't seen it yet. For what it's worth, I thought she acted the role of Elphaba very, very, well.
Her vocals, however, would be absolutely thrilling.
I'd be excited to see her if she did it.
Ripley would have been a great choice 10 years ago, but I think her voice is too damaged at this point to handle the score. Her acting would be sensational, though, and I know she's expressed a desire to play the role on Broadway.
Wow. Aguilera would be brilliant. I cannot shake the idea from my brain. I want to hear her sing that score. What a powerhouse!

I am with adamgreer on Eden. I really don't think it's fair to see that Eden can't act very well considering that she hasn't played a deep part that showcased her acting abilities. All I know about Eden is that her singing would be fierce, and I would kill to here her take on 'Rainbow High'. As for Alice and Julia, I really don't think that they could pull of looking 15. When I had heard about Julia playing Eva (regionally) a while back, I was quite baffled for just that reason alone.
Isn't Eden the one who never had any vocal lessons in her entire life? Her voice would be shot with this role. People worry about Olivo's voice? At least she's a trained vocalist.

She did work with a vocal coach during Brooklyn.
In general, though, Espinosa has solid vocal stamina and my guess is that she'd have no problems with the score to Evita.
She may not have had any prior training, but Espinosa has lungs of steel, and is known for not missing many performances at all. She's one of the few people who was able to play Elphaba for an extended period of time without any noticeable vocal damage (Dee Roscioli, incidentally, being the other that immediately comes to mind). I also doubt the score of Evita would be much trouble for her.

You can say all you want about BKLYN, but the one thing that can't be denied is that the score is a b**** to sing. It is more difficult than Wicked, and definitely more difficult than RENT. I think if she could handle BKLYN, Wicked, and Rent...she'll handle Evita prefectly fine (at least vocally).
I just can't deal with how much of that score Espinosa screamed... Her "I Never Knew His Name" was close to torture. She has moments of true vocal beauty and then some moments of terror. Hahahaha.
I want to hear Farah Alvin sing this score! She has such an incrediable voice. If you haven't heard her sing, you haven 't lived...
Farah Singing the S*** out of this song
Ljay, I'm not an Espinosa fan at all, but I am pretty sure that the reason she was sort of a go-to girl for the WICKED producers is because her voice could actually endure the torture that the role is in terms of the singing.
Like I said I would love to see Olivo play the part, I think she'd be brilliant, I worry about her vocal endurance but then again, whoever plays the part will probably have a hard time with it.
I doubt she could sing the score, but I would LOVE to see Natalie Cortez get a crack at Eva.
I'd say your doubts would prove correct. I saw Cortez in a regional mounting of EVITA (as the Tango feature, only with another female.) She covered the Mistress.
Espinosa screamed... Her "I Never Knew His Name" was close to torture.
Not when she head-voiced the money notes in that song, at certain performances. I actually preferred that choice.

Eden's "Meadowlark" sounds screechy and strained. I'm not a fan of her belt at all. Her lower register is fairly pleasant though.
I hate her Meadowlark
Orfeh should star in this. Who gives a **** if she's 14 or 500? She'd ****ing own the role.
Plus she's white, Kelly2, so you AND your Mom can go see the show!
Okay, I was told to keep this hush hush, but I can no longer hold it in.
The role of Eva Peron will be played by..........spiderdj82. That's right. I will rock them heels and wigs. What's new Buenos Aires? Spidey is in the house.
Spider, I will RIP that wig off y'damn head and climb over you to get on that balcony if I have to. You hear me?!
"Plus she's white, Kelly2, so you AND your Mom can go see the show!"
...lol, is that supposed to be funny? So sorry that I'm SO ignorant to think something as loaded with history and as politically charged as race would alter the message of ANY show, for the better or for the worse. We don't have to be colorblind, we just have to be mature and unprejudiced. Pretending not to see color is just as racist as being hateful because of it.
Also, Kelly2 - Wouldn't a 500 year old Eva Peron change the meaning of the show? I mean she was supposed to die young right? So if she was old it would be completely different. You know, kind of like having a black cast in Next To Normal...

Nah, I think it'd be fine. As long as she's white.
