Laura Benanti has said in several interviews that she wants to play Fosca, and I think she'd be wonderful. I think she'd connect to the part in a way similar to Donna Murphy's interpretation.
Kate Baldwin for Clara, please.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

I don't think it's a matter of what cast you get, it's more about what production you guys have. I saw the recent Donmar production and I really think you guys should have had that transferred over!!!!! with those leads too!!!

Aren't Kelli O'Hara and Kate Baldwin the same age?

"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
I guess they are. They are both 35 I believe. For some reason I always think of Kate as younger. I think either one would do a good job, but I think Kate would read younger.
I actually don't think Kelli reads that much older, but I would much rather see Kate.
And since I've been staring at my avatar, Virginia Vestoff would've made a fantastic Clara. Too bad the show was written 30 years after she could've done it.

I read somewhere that Peters was going to play Fosca in London originally but it didn't work out....
It's such a cliché, the "Peters for everything", and I think she needs Mrs Lovett first and she's obviously tied up with Follies at the moment too (not that it's a bad thing). I can easily imagine her doing "Loving You" though.
The Patti/Laura pairing would have been exciting if she didn't already do that concert.
Christine Ebersole?
Zeta-Jones would bring in crowds.....and it would be interesting to see someone like that (Beautiful, rich/glamorous/famous) take such a dire role.
Other 'hollywood casting': Kate Winslet?
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Laura Benanti all the way for Fosca, she'd be ideal.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
