Daphne Rubin-Vega (mimi from rent)
her voice pierces my ears. i seen the touring cast and the girl who played mimi sounded alot better.

Gertrude Lawrence in King and I. I want a recording with Donna Murphy and Yul Brynner.
Marylouise Burke in the ITW revival.
Frances Ruffelle in Les Mis. Gar!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't stand Daphne Rubin-Vega's singing (or rasping) in Rent.

Kristin Chenoweth in Wicked.
Idina Menzel in RENT. I simply cannot stand her pretensious, pompous Maureen, and she absolutely ruined "Over the Moon" for me.
Sarah Brightman in POTO. Her voice has just never appealed to me.
I totally agree with the Idina comment on the Rent recording. I skip all her songs when I listen to it.
Also, David Bryant on the Les Mis OBC recording. I can't believe he was cast as Marius (his understudies were much better).
Sutton in MILLIE
Sutton in MILLIE!!!! (GASP!)
Amy Spanger in just about everything she's ever recorded or done. I really can't stomach her voice. I almost ripped my ears off when I saw her in Urinetown...

This is a first, a thread where I agree with most of the other posts. I know you all worship her now, but Menzel on RENT is just atrocious. And you all know how I felt about Butler as Audrey. The one that sticks out in my mind from a more recent stinker, is every lead on the Footloose soundtrack. I love Jennifer Thompson but she is particularly awful. The whole recording sounds like it was done underwater.
You go, Al Dente!
I have to agree with Kerry Butler in Little Shop
OOOKAY, StickToPriest...we have a problem.
I LOVE Dean Jones on the Company recording.
I found Kert's "Being Alive" just okay, whereas Jones's was great, and fused with a special energy.

Sorry, NuggetMonkeys. I have to stand with SticktoPriest on that one. Jones' energy level is fine- the timbre of his voice is not.

Amy Spanger in ttB. Come to Your Senses had so much potential, but the last note is awful and the end is overacted. I want to hear that song sung by anyone but her.
I have to differ on Idina in Rent, I like her. Daphne drove me crazy at first, but after a while I adjusted. She doesn't bother me now. I do agree that there have been better-sung Mimi's. And Adam is off? I just don't hear it.
