I ask this question every year, and I always love hearing what everyone says.
With one week to go until the nominations are announced, say you had the power to guarantee one 2013 Tony nominee. What/who would be your single dream nomination (either presumably something you don't think will get the actual nomination on Tuesday, or something you would absolutely love to see get recognized)? And why?
I still don't think I've figured out what/who mine would be yet. To be fair, I still have a few shows to see this season, and I try to see them all.
But Seth Numrich (Best Leading Actor in a Play - GOLDEN BOY) did come to mind immediately though. The role has a major, major 180 degree arc from beginning to end and it requires a huge range of acting skills, all of which need to be sharp and finely-tuned in order for the show itself to work. And Numrich pulled off every single moment with incredible guts and authenticity.

Matthew James Thomas as the title role in Pippin.
I would love to see "Bring it On" snag a Best Musical nomination. I found the show extremely entertaining, heart-warming, and much more clever than a lot of shows out there right now. I would also love to see the cast reunite and perform on the broadcast.
Tony Shaloub for Best Featured Actor in a Play for Golden Boy. A phenomenal, devastating performance that may get forgotten because it closed so long ago.
Count me in for Matthew James Thomas in Pippin. Unfortunately, he gets overlooked the most and his performance is truly magnificent.
Even though everybody knows Billy Porter has it in the bag
Even though everybody knows Billy Porter has it in the bag
I saw him in the show and I wouldn't assume that at all.
My pick would be Ryann Redmond for Featured Actress in Bring It On.
Billy Porter has a bag now too? Jan Maxwell will be sad to hear it.
Tony Shaloub was indeed amazing. I thought he was the best one in that production. I hope Billy Porter does NOT have the Tony locked up. Save us from yet another sassy drag queen!
My vote would be the Christian chick in Hands on a Hardbody. I'm too lazy to look up her name, but the audience went wild after her number.
It was a great year for the ladies. I considered Keala Settle, Rachel Bay Jones, and Fiona Shaw, but in the end if I had to guarantee just one...
Kristine Nielsen in Vanya and Sonia... It's the performance of the season in my eyes.
Johnny Bolton
A CHRISTMAS STORY
Laura Osnes. her voice is pure magic and she really is the ultimate Cinderella
and
Yvonne Strahovski Golden Boy
Betsy Wolfe in The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
I am almost certain she won't be nominated since she left the cast in February and the show is now closed, but I thought she was a pure joy to watch onstage. I was captivated by her performance whenever she was onstage.

funny, heart, great singer/dancer/actor
Rob McClure for Chaplin. That show may have been eaten alive, but I never heard anything but incredible things about his performance.
I don't mean to hijack the thread but can someone explain to me this Jan Maxwell thing that comes up pretty much anytime discusses the Tonys? Perhaps a PM..?
Warren Carlyle for Best Choreography in A Christmas Story
So clever and inventive - it was hilarious in Ralphie to the rescue (especially the slow motion assisted run), and impressive tap dancing sequence in You'll Shoot Your Eye Out, and the lamp dance was very visually striking. Just very enjoyable all around.

Might as well put it out there for everyone.
Jan Maxwell has had a number of performances over the years where it was pronounced here by various posters that she had the award for Best Actress (or Featured Actress, depending on the year) "in the bag," only to later end up not winning. Thus the posts about Jan Maxwell's bag and all the Tony Awards it supposedly has in it already each year come awards season.

Carolee Carmello for Scandalous. Star-making performance. Carried the show on her back. One of the highlights of the season.

Rob McClure in Chaplin. I loved his performance.
Definitely TONY SHALHOUB in GOLDEN BOY.
Best performance of the season in my opinion. I couldn't get out of my seat at the end, I was so blown away.
