Pillowman - Thought provoking, exciting, funny, horrifing, all at the same time. Overall brilliance.
Play - Doubt (It's brilliant in my opinion)
Musical - Tie between Sweet Charity and ...Spelling Bee (I hear Light in the Piazza is wonderful but I don't see it until November so I can't say!)
Doubt or Pillowman
Spamalot---I never stopped laughing, and boy, do I need to laugh!
Play: Pillowman...it will haunt you for weeks after you see it
Musical: The Light in the Piazza....such a nice break from all of the ironic musicals out today. Truly a nod to the lushness of Sondheim shows and West Side Story, and it's only here for a limited time!
THE PILLOWMAN the best show in years.
"it will haunt you for weeks after you see it"
Natalie I couldn't have said it better!
Of course, I would say Lennon...but only if you're willing to give it a chance!
The Light in the Piazza.
The Light in the Piazza. it's gorgeous easily one of the best new musicals Broadway has seen in years...
The Pillowman. Its simply perfect.
Light in the Piazza, and going off the responses from this thread, I am convinced that I should see Pillowman soon!

"Spelling Bee" is probably the best time I've spent in the theatre. It's a laugh-a-minute (except for the "I Love You" song, which is slow and stops the show's momentum). I refuse to see The Light in the Piazza, because I find it boring (based on the cast recording). I might try and catch it before it closes, but it's not on my list of priorities.
Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf - a classic that won't be around again for many many years after the undeserved box office failure of this scintillating production. Go see it now!
THe Pillowman
or
Sweet Charity
the light in the piazza.

Light in the Piazza
It's a great musical for people who love musicals. It has a beauitful score and set, an amazing cast... and there are very funny parts in it too. The show won the most Tonys: 6, including one for the leading lady, Victoria Clark. The theatre is very cozy, and almost all of the seats you have a perfect view throughout the show.

Sorry. One show? IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO LIST ONE!
But, it would be an Off Broadway show named Forbidden Broadway.
It would depend on the person:
Ave Q
Forbidden Broadway
Spelling Bee (Magic Foot)
Hairspray
The Producers
Sweet Charity (Denis O'Hare)
I still have not seen:
Pillowman
Spamalot

Phantom- still a classic
Wicked- One of the best on Broadway now
Sweet Charity- just such a fun show
Sadly I haven't seen Light in the Piazza. I need to see it!
Piazza was great with Matt. Sadly, Matt has left.
The new Piazza number in Forbidden Broadway is one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
PILLOWMAN
THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA
and
IN MY LIFE, for it is sure to be historic.
