If you could take one song out...

"Miss Baltimore Crabs" from Hairspray, and "Famous" from Bombay Dreams for obvious reasons. That being said, I wish they would be replaced with better songs for the characters.

"Miss Baltimore Crabs" says a few important things regarding the character and plot...
"If you are going to do something, do it well. And leave something witchy."

Okay, I havent seen the show so maybe I shouldn't say anything...but "Little Lamb" from Gypsy seems out of place on the CD?

I know people love this song, but I've never been able to stand "Santa Fe" from Rent. Hate on stage, hated it in the movie. I just hate the song.

"Something Bad" from Wicked is pretty brutal.

^^ Agreed...and I'm not a big fan of any of the Wizard's material either.

If you take out LITTLE LAMB, then the second most important character n the show has no solos except her strip number, and you really no nothng about her character until the second act. The song exists to show how lonely she is, and how even though they say it's her birthday, she doesn't even know how old she is. She's spent vitually her whole life on the road and has no idea what a normal homelife is like.

I adore Les Mis, but I could easily get through "Turning." It provides no information, and is sung by ensemble members about whom we know nothing. It's not a bad song on its own, I just don't see the need for it, structurally speaking.

"I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story. It's not the worst song in the world, but it has a life of its own now and feels so jarring in context.

I used to feel that way about "Turning," but now I love it because it shows how the barricades effected the outlying community, not just the central characters of the show. It's also a good reflection on what the women during this time went through. I love it

"Something Just Broke" should be taken out of ASSASSINS. It stops the show dead - in the worst possible way, and it completely breaks the mood of the show by attempting to show/tell the other side of the story. The show was written as a "glorification" of presidential assassins, and I think works best as that - this was a senseless addition to the score.

I know that a lot of people love this song, and I love it too, but I would take out "Nothing Is Too Wonderful To Be True" from DRS, ONLY because I feel that it would be better if Act One closed with "Here I Am". I think that Christine's arrival is a good way to end the first act and "Here I Am" is a nice song to close the act.
As much as I love "Nothing Is Too Wonderful...", (and I adore that song) I feel like the rest of the first act after "Here I Am" is a little dragged out.

There's a lot I am not certain of...

I would take out either "Another Pyramid" or "Like Father, Like Son" out of Aida because I hate the Zoser songs.
I would take "Something Bad" out of Wicked, and re-write it as dialogue.
Also "You Never Say Good Luck On Opening Night" would be taken out of The Producers
"I'm Not Wearing Underwear Today" would be cut from Avenue Q, because as much as enjoy Avenue Q, I could really do without those pointless 30 seconds.
And I agree with Kringas. I don't really like "Santa Fe", either on stage or in the movie.

How necessary is "Day Off" in SITPWG? I tend to skip this song while I'm listening to the recording, but I do enjoy it when watching it. It just feels like the least necessary song in the whole score, unless I'm not getting something about it. (Which is very, very likely; it's taken me years to understand SITPWG, and I'm still learn more about it all the time.)

"Heaven Help My Heart" from Chess. The sentiment in this song is adequately expressed in other songs and, I'm assuming, dialogue (although I have never seen a non-concert version). It also sounds like a song written for Celine Dion.

"nothing is too wonderful to be true" from dirty rotten scoundrels. I like the weird words, but I'm never interested when it comes on my ipod and when I see it live.
<--- the set of A Midsummer Night's Dream that I was assistant stage manager for during the 2007 season at the STNJ outdoor stage.
-Dre- You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel.

"Something Bad" from Wicked, "Miss Baltimore Crabs" from Hairspray, and a few others I know I've felt this about - but I can't seem to remember them now

I just saw this and agree wholeheartedly. However, I don't know if "I hate the Zoser songs" is a sufficient reason as to why they should be eliminated. Do you hate John Hickok's voice on the OBCR or the songs themselves? Personally, I don't mind his voice, but feel the songs have some of Tim Rice's worst lyrics. Also, the background vocals are pure cheese.

I think John Hickok has a great voice, I just cannot stand the songs themselves, and I think the lyrics are awful.

The only song I could see being taken out and not missing it would be "Not wearing underwear today" from Avenue Q.

I completely agree about "Heaven Help My Heart"... it brings Chess to a dead stop, not to mention that it's not even that compelling a song.
