lol- yes, really. I was totally bored when this was going on. I feel Olive's story is strong enough through her dialouge and "My Friend the Dictionary."

Adding on to everyone who's said "Santa Fe" in RENT. Toooo boring.
I wouldn't cut the whole thing, but I'd take a couple verses out of "Music of the Night" from Phantom. SO boring.

I'm also not a Santa Fe fan.
In Ragtime I'd love to get ride of "A Shtetl is Amerika". I'm just really not a fan of the song. Also, I hate Henry Ford and Crime of The Century.
I've never been a fan of the Pirelli sequence in Sweeney and believe it or not I've always hated By The Sea and just wish for a song that did more for the show.

I'd take the whole score out of Phantom of the Opera.
on a more serious note-- I'd take "I'm eating myself up alive" from a New Brain, cause i don't find it a particularly enjoyable song, and i don't care about that guy's character enough to hear him sing that. maybe if it were a more interesting song i'd feel differently, but it seems pretty expendable to me.

I am probably alone on this, but the first time "Find Your Grail" is sung in Spamalot, the mood is just brought down really low for no reason. I don't really find the song very inspirational. Only later does it get better.
Santa Fe kinda works, kinda not. I never really liked Tango: Maureen. Something Just Broke is a great moving song, I think it should be left in. I agree Little Lamb is tedious.

Dean: Can I tell you something?
Lorraine: That depends on what it is.
Dean: I think you're really really pretty.
Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.

I remember hating the shriner dance piece from "Bye Bye Birdie." If you don't have a stellar dancer like Chita, it's just boring.

I just resaw the tour of Les Mis and I still think that as pretty as "Stars" is, it brings the show to a grinding halt. There's no reason for it. We already know that javert will do anything in his power to see Valjean back on the chain gang... He tells us everytime he comes onstage. So now we have to listen to a four minute song about. Enough already.
Also in AIDA I would throw out "My strongest suit". There's no furthering the plot going on, we already know she is a raging vanity queen. If not for the costumes, and the fact that its the most Bubble Gum Pop song I think it could've been cut.

Bare_nakedlady, I think "Stars" is essential to the show. The song isn’t just telling us that Javert will do anything to capture Valjean; it’s telling us why he feels he must capture him. Without it, Javert’s pursuit of Valjean is just a cartoonish cat and mouse game.
And I know "Little Lamb" always makes these lists, but I can’t imagine the score to Gypsy without it.

I've been good for a few days and haven't said anything about "Lestat" so I am giving into temptation and I will say the whole score of "Lestat" except "I Want More" and maybe "Crimson Kiss". Please forgive me.

That dredfully long dance break in the first act of CATS. I'm a dancer and still find it boring...

"Can You Find It In Your Heart" from Footloose
"I Know Where I've Been" from Hairspray
"A Sentimental Man" from Wicked
"All For One" from Spamalot
Any "Favorite Moment of the Bee" from Spelling Bee
"How Long Must This Go On?" from Beauty and the Beast
"Best Man For The Job" from The Drowsy Chaperone
"Hymn For A Sunday Evening" from Bye Bye Birdie
They're all the songs that I despise listening to when my playlist keeps going through albums.

One more thing about "Turning" (LES MIZ), the story is about "revolution," which, if you noticed, is symbolized by the "revolving" stage. The song talks about "the turning of the years," a phrase which is also used by Valjean earlier in ACT I, and thus the story comes "full circle" with its inclusion. Taking out won't make any sense, at least to people like me who have analyzed the show repeatedly.

"That Dirty Old Man" from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. I loathe it.
"A Sentimental Man" from Wicked. It's so anticlimactic.
And, I too think "Stars" brings Les Miz to a halt - but in a good way, the way that makes me want to give a standing ovation in the middle of the show. That is one of my favorite numbers in the show; it's so perfect for the Javert, and it gives depth to his character. He's a person, not just a policeman.

How can you take out I Know Where I've Been when it's the 11 o'clock number?
Sorry, that one just suprised me.

"Something Bad" and "One Short Day" from Wicked. Something Bad just irks my nerves, nothing else. One Short Day I feel like separates the show and reminds you WOW! This is a Broadway Musical! In your face!

The Music and the Mirror?? I love that song and it's Cassie's big number! I can't believe that they replaced it in the movie by that other song, but that's a whole other story.
I find the staging of Sante Fe kind of boring on stage, but I really enjoyed it in the movie. For some reason I really love the "gain, gain, gain" part. It always makes me smile.

"there but for you go i" from brigadoon-- i love this show, but it's not necessary because it's about the 3rd ballad in a row and it just gets repetitive.
and i half agree with the thing about something bad-- whomever said to make it dialogue, good idea! i agree!

hear my song; it was made for the time when you don't know where to go, listen to the song that i sing, you'll be fine..
