I hope this film gives more visibility to latino/hispanic talent. .Only 3% of speaking characters in 2016′s top 100 films were Latinos. African Americans 13 %  and Asians 5%. All those numbers are pitiful. Can anyone remember the last time a Hispanic actor won an Oscar? Latinos are basically invisible in Hollywood and something has to change. 

Hollywood's depictions of Mexicans and Latinos as drug dealers,criminals and rapists have been going on for years and probably made it easier for Donald Trump to spread his xenophobia into the country. 

I think IN THE HEIGHTS is coming at a great time in American society. Something has to give. #LatinosLeftOut.

And how about Gina Rodriguez as Nina and Sofia Vergara as Daniela? Ivonne Coll would be great as the mother!

The Moana girl is actually a really good choice for nina. And she’s friends with Lin she might be considered.

Most of the cast will probably have to be unknowns or up and coming talents. I think they do need some big stars to market it though. Les mis, into the woods and Hairspray adaptions all had big stars. In addition La La land and the greatest showman had stars as well.

I'm nervous about the casting but the mere thought of Rita Moreno as Abuela is TOO MUCH TO HANDLE! pleeeeeease let that happen

I don't know if they can cast specifically Latinx, unless they go with unknowns. Those mentioning Vanessa Hudgens? She's Irish, Native American, Filipino.  ??????Auli?i Cravalho is pushing it a bit as she's Hawaiian, Puerto Rican, Portuguese, Chinese and Irish. Obviously us native New Yorkers know we're a melting pot so mixed folks can work, but on the screen, how specific are they going to have to be to please the critics that will be looking at the races of who they cast?

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Rita Moreno have shared the stage countless times as both are HUGE fans of each other.  She currently co-stars in the big Netflix hit series remake of ONE DAY AT A TIME so she's still visibly working.   

Jennifer Lopez's fan girl status of Lin-Manuel Miranda is very well-known.  Though the role of Daniela is a supporting role, its a hefty role with her own numbers and stand-alone moments ala Anita in WEST SIDE STORY.  Heck, it could even be the role that finally gets her Oscar recognition.    

I think its safe to assume we've found the film's Daniela and Abuela Claudia.
