In The Heights Movie Casting

So now that the In The Heights movie is officially set for 2020, we're probably not far away from casting. Who are your dream cast members? 

For me, Jordan Fisher as Benny seems like a no-brainer. Also after seeing Vanessa Hudgens in DC, I'd love to see her as Vanessa in the movie. Who else do you wanna see??

I would love to see Ana Villafane, Vanessa Hudgens and Jordan Fischer. I'd love to see Corbin Bleu do the movie as Usnavi!

Pre-production is expected to begin in Spring 2019 so whoever is relevant at that time will be considered in casting.  For all the obvious PC reasons, expect to see Latin-American actors cast.  American-Puerto Rican Jennifer Lopez will definitely be Daniela and Puerto Rican born EGOT Latina legend (still working) Rita Moreno will be Abuela Claudia.

Wait...it's because of PC reasons that Latinx actors will be cast in IN THE HEIGHTS???  Not because that's the only possible way to do it?

Zero chance they’ll cast the OBC. These characters are supposed to be like 19 years old. They’re all like 40.

Anthony Ramos just played it in Washington DC so he would be great in the film. BTW Anthony is in the new A Star Is Born with Lady G

Anthony Ramos was the first person who came to mind, especially after how Lin gushed about his performance in the Kennedy Center production (unless they're going with a "star". If the movie's good enough, he could be the Timothee Chalamet breakout star of 2020.

Rita Moreno would be amazing.

I like the castings of Rita Morena as Abuelo Claudia and Anthony Ramos as Usnavi but I feel like they need stars. I don’t think Lin is opposed to casting non Latino actors in roles (Corbin Bleu replaces him as Usnavi for example) but I’m sure he’ll try his best to get Hispanic actors for most of the major roles like he did for the OBC. If JLO was a better singer I would suggest her for Daniela lol. Regardless I’m sure they will consider her. I don’t know if she would take a supporting role though.

I think Jennifer Lopez would consider it (I think it would be great casting), she just did an interview saying how busy she was, so she might take the supporting role to have a bit of a 'break' from being the star. Plus she LOVES Lin so I don't think she could say no.

If they're going with stars...  JLo has the Lin-Manuel connection and would definitely be a "get" for the film. Maybe Selena Gomez as Nina? In other forums, people have suggested Lin-Manuel as the Piragua guy.

There aren't many stars out there who could pull off Usnavi. I think a few bigger names in supporting parts and an unknown/Broadway person as Usnavi seems likely (unless they go with ALL unknowns, which would be cool).

I assume Lin-Manuel will also write a new song or two for Oscar consideration.

Selena Gomez isn’t actually much of a singer, which they could obviously work around like they do with her music, but I’d imagine Lin wants super talents. Plus Nina has to be super innocent and Selena Gomez isn’t that.

I never thought of Lin as Piragua Guy but that’d be incredible. I still kinda think he’d More likely just make a cameo as a one-line side character, but Piragua Guy would be awesome. Though they could go a million ways for that, like get someone massively famous.

Anyways....

I'm really excited for this film. I'd love it if Christian Navarro is cast as Usnavi. He's be perfect. I like the director also.

Forgive me for not knowing the spelling of her name. There is that beautiful young girl who was in the tv show RISE and worked with LMM in Moana. She is a beautiful singer and young and fresh. I would love to see her as Nina.

She would be PERFECT! However I suggested Vanessa Hudgens on Twitter earlier and people said she's not Latina so she shouldn't. Cravalho has a bit of Puerto Rican but she's mostly Hawaiian, I'm not sure if the purity police would accept her.

Anthony Lee Medina was Usnavi in The Theater Under the Stars (Houston) production of ITH before joining the Broadway cast of Hamilton.  He was practically perfect . . . sweet, funny, in great voice.  I’d love to see him on the screen.  If there’s another name for Usnavi, then perhaps as Sonny.

Demi Lovato as Nina would be great too but she’s getting a bit too old now...

What about Gabrielle Ruiz from crazy ex-girlfriend? She did all the roles on Bway...

Anthony Ramos would be perfect and his star is on the rise...

We have to have J-Lo as Daniela or even as Nina’s mother...

Esai Morales would be a great Kevin Rosario -- Don't know if he can sing but they could dub in a singer, he doesn't have many songs any way
