that was so cute! i loved that lol as everyone else i teared. that kid is my hero i love his videos lmao.
I loved how Lin-Manuel was guiding him. What an absolutely sweet and generous thing the cast did for that kid - they created a memory of a lifetime.

qolbinau, that was horrible and totally uncalled for.
The mood of my post totally just got killed but that was so nice of them. I'm happy for him.
Oh my. That video is amazing. I am so jealous of that kid.
I went to watch this thinking, "I bet it'll be cute, but there's no way it could actually make me cry."
WRONG.
Me too.
qolbinau, that was unnecessary.
Is there a backstory somewhere? I searched for one that might've been in a local paper or something, but nothing. I want to know more about this kid. (Plus, I'm not really familiar with In the Heights, so I guess I can't really appreciate what he was doing, though it was cute.)
this definitely brought some tears!
WOW!!!! Feliz Navidad, indeed! What an incredible memory for that kid!!!!!
Oh, wow... teary eyed... great, I just put on this mascara like ten minutes ago...
And seriously, that kid is pretty good. I better not show my little sister, or she'll start getting ideas and demand to play Flounder for a performance of "The Little Mermaid."
qolbinau has a point, but there's a time and a place and neither one is in this thread.
That said, was this for BC/EFA or something? Did the kid's parents donate a huge load of money? Did he write a letter? I'm almost frustrated by the lack of info!
Does he get his Equity card now?
He posted a video of himself rapping on YouTube apparently - maybe he was noticed or something. I think it would suck if it was some kind of 'donation', we are led to believe it's the compassion of the cast/crew.
According to a friend... "the cast took their time out of a two show day to do that for him because they all love his videos at the theatre, so it was out of complete kindness on their part. no money was given to them to make the video happen"

I work at the Richard Rodgers, here's the short version of the story: Lin was a fan of this kid's videos on Youtube, and posted supportive comments on his Youtube page. The kid's mom emailed Lin, letting him know that they would be in town to see Heights for Thanksgiving week. So Lin invited them to the theater, and they filmed this between shows last Saturday before Thanksgiving. He bought everyone in the cast and crew dinner from Carmine's--it was delicious, and Nicholas and his mom stuck around and saw the show Saturday evening. That's why everyone's in street clothes in the video--it was extracurricular, and totally worth it. Happy holidays!

Thanks for posting a little background on how this came to be. God bless Lin Manuel-Miranda and the entire cast and crew for making this boy's dream come true.
Well good that it was genuine. And sucks that someone removed my post, now the complaints are taken completely out of context and seem worse.
Excuse me for pointing out the health (or lack thereof) of another human being.
Knowing the way the videotape happened...in between shows...made me enjoy it more.
I have to admit, as someone else said, I'm not sure how "cute" I'd have thought it was if I had paid 120 bucks to see ITH and this was how it ended.
A very kind thing indeed.
Nicholas' videos are wonderful, and I'm beyond thrilled for him. Dreams can come true, indeed.
Definitely can't stop smiling now. That's amazing.
Bumping.
tonyawards.com is having a "Tony Community Photo Contest," and one of the pics that is up for voting on is a pic of Nicholas from this video shoot-
it was on page 4 of the photos when I voted, you might have to scroll back to find it...

oh that is so awesome, thanks for the heads up.... going to vote now
I remember watching a video on Broadway.com when this whole thing came out. Lin was talking about how he had seen the kids videos on youtube and was really touched and enjoyed them. He had then wrote the kid back and they started to communicate that way. Lin had found out that basically the kid's life was turned upside down due to the fact that he lives in New Orleans. So, he was nice enough to pay for their tickets and have the cast and Lin do a youtube collaboration. And, that is what ended up being in the video.
