I also like the Sabbath Prayer from "Fiddler on The Roof."
"Every Day a Little Death" is still one of the most beautiful duets. I also like "In Praise of Women" (I think that's the name of it) from "A Little Night Music."
And since it was not limited to broadway songs, I'd like to add "Don't Cry out Loud" by Melissa Manchester (one of the most underrated singers around). It's a shame we respect singers from the 30's 40's, and 50's, but disses most all singers from the 70's.

Prayer-The Scarlet Pimpernel (I don't know if this is underrated, but in my little town no one else knows SP)
Once in a While-Rocky Horror (not incerdibly beautiful, but I enjoy it.)

I actually think that Nobody's Side and Someone Else's Story from Chess are incredibly underrated, as is Endgame... when people speak of Chess they usually mention Anthem or One Night In Bangkok.
I also think Origin of Love from Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a beautiful song...

I meant that "I'm Not That Grl" is underrated and understated compared to the other songs in Wicked. I love to hear people belt te crap out of the songs in Wicked, but it's nice to hear something simple in there. It's a beautiful song.

Shira, I agree with you--Jane Eyre's beautiful score is incredibly beautiful and understated. In particular, the song FORGIVENESS.
Garland Grrrl, I agree with you on the BACK TO BEFORE comment, adding that it has the most beautiful imagery! Sitting in the theatre for the first time I marveled at it, and still do today.
I'm not sure if this song is understated, but someone mentioned a song from The Civil War, and I thought of BROTHER, MY BROTHER. Wonderful imagery here too: "as His fields of gold turn scarlet/at the rage of battle born." Though, it seems, when people talk Wildhorn, they bring up Jekyll and Hyde and The Scarlet Pimpernel before the songs of The Civil War.
