I've seen few comments on the leaflet. I think Columbus' note is beautiful -- it almost made me cry. And I looooove the last picture of Adam.
I'm missing silly thing like Daphne's "Ooh whoah, ooh whoah, whoah, ooh yeah..." during "Out Tonight"...
but overall a great soundtrack.
Anthony sounds so much better on this recording than he did on the OBC. There's not so much whine in it, which is a good thing.
Adam sounds older. Smoking definitely had changed the tone and the quality of his voice. He doesn't sound bad just very different from the Adam who recorded this score ten years ago.
Jesse can do no wrong. He could have easily just sang these songs exactly as he did on the OBC and called it a day, but he went the extra mile and approached each song as if it were the first time and gave them all new touches that are amazing.
Tracie Thoms. The girl is amazing.
Idina's OTM is much funnier on the OBC. It wasn't bad on the soundtrack but it didn't really leave any big impression on me either. She's okay.
Taye handles what little he has to sing.
Wilson Jermaine holds his own and has a great voice on him. I love his harmonizing on ICY with Jesse. His TFY is better here than on the OBC.
Rosario - gives it the old college try, but I suspect she's been "tweaked" here and there. Her OT is good but her vocals are sometimes lost in the powerful new rock arrangement. Her vocals are mixed too low on OT. She does a nice LMC. She lacks alot of the pain and heartache "Mimi" should have during Goodbye Love and to be honest with you there were many times listening to this that I really missed Daphne. Maybe when I see the movie I'll feel differently.

I picked up mine at Tower Records near Lincoln Center and was excited to see the huge display in the window. They seemed to have equal amounts of every cast member, every one was represented. I too was touched by Chris' letter in the front of the booklet and couldn't get enough of the pictures.

I hate it. I dont like Idina's Over the Moon as much as the OBCR. Rosario is a lot better than I expected. I havent listened to all of it, though, but I dont think I'll like it any better. I'll stick to my OBCR.
aw, at least give it a full listen.
I was right across the street from Tower -- I wish I had gone to look for the display.
People will like it better in a week once they are used to it.

Man. I went to Borders and Media Play and only Media Play had it. They had nothing promoting it. And they only had 5 of the 8, and only one copy of each. Actually, 2 of Rosario. So 6 total copies. And they were on sale. Funny that a cd goes on sale the day it is released. Oh well. They had Idina, Adam, Taye, Rosario, and Wilson. I picked up Idina but I really want the Adam one too. Decisions decisions...
I've listened to most of it and I really enjoy it. I'm pleasantly surprised with Rosario's voice. It's so different from Daphne's, but really good. And I like LMC unlike a lot of people here.
And I agree with Michael Bennett. People just have to get used to it.

Intialy I thought it was extremely well done. I liked the way they changed it a bit to make it different from the OBCR. Listening to it again though I really didnt like Rosario and the way the music was too loud for her voice in Out Tonite. And I love the drums at the beginning of RENT. :)
It will definetly take some getting used to, but I can not stop listening to Your Eyes, I love this version of the song! The rest of the things are still sort of strange like the date changes and the lines that are left out in some of the songs! Overall, though I would say I like it, now I just need for it to be Nov. and we will be all set!

The FYE by me said that Warner Bros. shipped the CDs late and would get it a few days late....so I went to Barnes and Noble and bought it (way overpriced). They had 1 Idina cover which I took (cause she's the prettiest female of the bunch).
Yes. I was psyched that Tower had it for 17.99.
My question still stands and I hope someone can answer it. Should we expect critical reviews of this CD?
And if anyone finds them, start posting!
I've been listening to the soundtrack all day. I really like the new rock sound to a lot of the songs.
Tango: Maureen is awesome. I love that they added the tango section of the music in the middle, I can't wait to see them dancing onscreen. I caught myself about to dance in the elevator earlier during this song, it was bad.
OTM- I really like it. I can see that it has a different tone to it than the version on the OBCR, but I've seen Maureen's play this playful and serious/angry, so I guess I already accepted that it could go either way. Like Maureen. (heh, bad joke).
Everything Jesse sings: Amazing. Love him. If I'm this blown away by how great he sounds and I've been listening to Rent for forever, I can't imagine how people who only know him from L&O will react. Santa Fe is hot!
Overall, there a parts of the OBCR that I like better than the soundtrack (LMC!) and there are some parts of the soundtrack I already like better. I almost want to make an "Ultimate RENT" playlist where I pick and chose songs from each.
I am soooo curious about which cover I'll receive from amazon !!! Is the single character cover an insert in front of the full cast poster pic, or is it the only cover ? I mean, if I get a character I am not crazy about, can I use the booklet cover in the front of the cd case ??
It's a cardboard slip. The actual plastic CD case has a leaflet with the poster art.
Oh my emcee, I knew I could count on you You definetely know which one I want, hehehehe !
I hope you get him!
It is up to number 15 on the Amazon Sales Chart . . .
We'll see ! I have one chance in eight, not a very good percentage !!!!
15? Rock on!

LVB is way too slow.....also noticed the line was changed to "on these nights when we celebrate the birth...." to reflect the date change.

What's the deal with the date change? Why would they do that?
And 15 is and excellent placement for its first day.
Cause the first half of the movie takes place over like 3-4 days, instead of 3-4 hours.
Can anyone post a picture or scan of the o-card? Preferably an Idina one?
"Jesse can do no wrong. He could have easily just sang these songs exactly as he did on the OBC and called it a day, but he went the extra mile and approached each song as if it were the first time and gave them all new touches that are amazing."
I think most of his changes are for the worse. The riffing at the beginning on "I'll Cover You (Reprise)" is ridiculous. The beauty of that simple meoldy is lost in all that unnecessary riffing. I get chills whenever I hear the beginning on that song...except on this soundtrack. The poignancy is lost and it sounds as though he's trying TOO hard. There's also something weird going on with his voice a little later in the song. Overall its good, but a little disappointing to me. Not crazy about the little changes to "Sante Fe" either. It was like her was trying too hard to do something different with it.
Not crazy about how Adam and Anthony sound either...the complete lack of vibrato makes them both sounded inappropriately harshe-toned at points...like they can't sing anymore. Which I'm sure isn't true...it does sound that way sometimes, though.
Tracie Thoms. Now she can do no wrong.
Idina sounds fantastic. I love the new direction she's taking "Over the Moon" in, but there is a lack on intensity on some of the lines that are disappointing. If she had this interpretation combined with the passion she has towards the end of OTM on the OBCR, I think it would be perfect. i'm getting a sense from the cast recording that Maureen is going to be the most different character from the show.
I always wondered why there was the Life Support meeting was going on at like 11pm on a holiday.
